It keeps going up through the decades. In the 1970’s, 10% was the average. Then I heard 15%, 20% and lately, 30%. I tip at 15% unless someone went beyond the call of duty. If they want more than that, they won’t get a cent from me because I can cook better, cheaper and healthier at home anyway. After 12 years of cooking in the Navy and now a MGTOW monk, I don’t need to eat out too often anyway. It gets to the point where one cannot afford to eat out.
I usually don’t go over 15% no matter how good the service is/was. I’m not a regular anywhere and just because I might have a good experience once, doesn’t mean that the server is good. Maybe they just had a better day than normal and I didn’t have to put up with any s~~~.
I do remember once where a waiter at a Coco’s overheard my friends and I talking about getting high off of computer duster. He chimed in and told us what the dangers were and offered advice on how to do it safely. He did caution against it completely but still offered the advice. I think we tipped him generously for the interesting conversation.
I pretty much NEVER eat out anymore; for many good reasons. But when I was a dumbass and did, I doubled the tax (which was higher than most in my state) and left said cash on the table. I’d give about anything to have that money back. Spending money on a woman/female was the most foolish thing I’ve ever done with my money.
If the restaurant/bar/wherever has a service charge, which is typically 12.5%, I consider the service charge as the tip.
Otherwise I typically aim for 10%, or up to 20% if I’ve received particularly good service. I will not leave a tip if I’ve gotten bad service.
I over tip and I know its a problem. I waited tables briefly and I have mad respect for both the females and males who do it. Its a tough living, low pay job that wrecks your feet worse than military hikes.
As long as my glass is full, food good, and they were not dragging ass: 30% for men, %20 for females.
If they drag ass and generally did not a give a s~~~ about me: 15% or less for Men. 10% for chicks.
They’d have to really do a terrible job for me to tip less than 10%. This has happened a few times. I would never not tip anything unless there was some sort of MAJOR social taboo broken, like they cursed at me or something.
It also depends on the scale of the bill. If it’s over a $40 tab, they’re only going to get 20%-25%. Like a $85 restaurant bill is only going to get the standard 20%.
Now, if it’s a $12 dollar bill. Sometimes I just leave the whole $20 for the MALE waiter, $5 for females. (YES, IM MAJORLY SEXIST WITH GRATUITY LOL)
Typically, the bill is $32 for two people. I tip $7, a healthy 20%. Respect the profession, these people live check to check and will never get ahead. If they took care of you, take care of them.
Anonymous0I almost never go out to places where a tip is expected. Once in a while when I do go, I prefer Halibut House on Sundays and Mondays. They have a fish n chips special for $7. Taxes and tip all for $10. I do that maybe twice a year.
Logically speaking, tipping makes no sense and makes even less sense in Ontario now that they have upped the minimum wage to $14/hr. Sorry, it isn’t up to me as a patron to ensure my waitress’ bills are paid. If a restaurant cannot pay a fare wage to their employees, they probably shouldn’t be in business.
Prices keep going up and the quality and quantity of food keeps going down. I buy groceries and make my own food. A freezer is your best friend. Freeze and re-heat.
Usually 10%. It depends, but I never give less than 50 rubles, even if I had a dinner for 150. And I’ll never give more than 500 (it’s the max I ever tipped) no matter how much the bill is.
Happiness for all and let no one be forgotten ("Roadside picnic", Arkady and Boris Strugatsky)
Anonymous54Hey, dont take all the s~~~ I said personaly.
Ive worked for tips.I don’t go by percentage. Bad service gets nothing. Good service gets a couple of bucks. Great service gets five or more dollars. Where I live and the places I go, $5.00 is a good tip.
The evil in women’s hearts leaves them no moral bounds as to inhibit them from descending to the lowest levels of darkness to acquire their self entitled desires.

Bingo.
At the moment I’m in a major money saving mode & getting ripped mode so there’s no going out to restaurants and s~~~ like that. Just my once a week daiquiri and I tip the ladies at the daiquiri shop well cause they don’t short me the extra shots in them like most places will and pocket the cash. Sometimes they’ll lose count and apologize that I may have gotten 1 extra lol. No complaints from me on that one.No Wife - No Strife
I’ve worked in the industry at several different levels. Some jobs, I would get tips. Others flat out had no tip jar policies. When I’m out, in a sit down kind of place, I watch everyone closely. Times have changed. I’m very surprised when I actually get quality service. If I’m in the money, sure I’ll share some of the wealth. If I’m broke, you better impress me to get anything. The thing that really upsets me is gratuity fees + forced tips; yeah I won’t ever come back to a place that steals my money. Bartenders, I always pay well, they deal with drunks and BS everyday, so I tip them nicely. If I get poor service, my order is wrong multiple times in the same trip, my burger is never right the first time out, the whole place is dirty and the managers are jerks; yeah I’m calling the owners and complaining.
20% rounded up to nearest dollar ($2 minimum, $3 minimum for good service).
Examples:
$14.72 = $3.00 tip
$5.82 = $2.00 tip (or $3.00 for good service)
$27.21 = $6.00 tipNo tip for take out, ever. The tip is for the person serving you and cleaning up your nasty mess left on the table.
