Staying away from gash is a given. I’ll take my anti c~~~ inoculation every once in while, but really, reading archived posts over serves that purpose. There is financial, carrier, health, raising kids….all that stuff that I’m working on. But I want to start with a big one for me.

Here is what I’m thinking. Start a series of posts of how to make ourselves better. I’ll do it if you guys are cool with it. We have so many things to improve upon when we ignore the gash. So here is my # 1 . Watch
    Samvel Yervinyan on the violin:

My artistic side has been completely neglected. I just bought a violin and found an old Ukrainian that survived the gulags to teach me. I’m doing this.

So this post is: Developing our Artistic Side, what do you wish you could do?

It’s violin for me and I’m doing it stating in two days. What’s yours?

I like to paint, but I seem to have painters block, though. I don’t have any talent, and most of my art is abstract citysapes. But I do find it relaxing and fun to see what I can come up with. I would like to work on this more.
In a non artistic pursuit, I am trying to teach myself German. I have some beginner’s guides and old textbooks, and I watch Youtube videos on it. I took 3 years of French in h.s., I just prefer the sound of German now.

Excellent! It’s exactly what I’m talking about. Learning a language, art, music. There is something that happened to my brain when I saw my greasy fingers (break job on my car) play my first note.

I am learning the art and craft of making plaster casts of architectural details. So far I’ve made my first silicone mold from a wooden model I built, and then made a few plaster casts from it. This week I’ll start again and improve my techniques so that I make perfect molds and perfect casts every time.

Even though learning this new craft is part of my business, it satisfies my need to create new things. Because once I have the process down, then I can start working on more ornate architectural forms. It really is exciting!

I’ve been picking up my Martin and my twelve string lately. I’m starting to sign up for open mike nights again. Eventually, I plan to have a nice little circuit niched out for me up here.

Art and story telling has always been my passion. Essentially, graphic novels, or “comics for adults”. I have talent and have worked on small stories in the past, with positive feedback from others, but lately I’ve had artists block and writer’s block so I haven’t created a story yet that really motivates me to continue with my passion. Any tips on how to get out of the creative “funk” and not let the busy work of life suck away time for your hobbies?

I have discovered a truly remarkable list of reasons why women are not necessary for a happy life, but alas this margin is too small to contain it.

Still trying to figure that out myself.
If I figure it out, I’ll let you know. It sucks though.

Sometimes I just need to put it down and clear my head. I’m working on a plot line right now for a new fiction novel. Every so often I’ll jot down a few more notes.

Ha! You are a singer! OS will love it.

I suuuuuuuuck at singing. I try to practice, but every time I do, whales start beaching themselves on the shore, so I stop. Wish I could though.

Well, I sing more like Bob Dillon or Rod Stewart than Elvis or Sinatra. Yeah, you’re right…he will.

That is really cool. I worked at a prosthodontist’s office for a while. We did a lot of that for teeth.

Anybody got advice for learning violin? I have zero expierience. I’m stubborn as f~~~ though, my neighbors are going to love me. I just insulated the garage though, so that should help.

Dude, do not let that side of you die. I have this feeling that the creative side is so very necessary…it’s one of the things that ” the machine” tries to crush.

Fermat, a writing professor once told the class that if you don’t like someone, put them in your story and kill them…it’s very therapeutic. She was right, it is.
Chaff: Go to a guitar show and check out the different violins available. Ask questions of the vendors there. You’ll see violins, too. Then pick up a good cheap used one(you’ll know the difference by then) and try teaching yourself. If you need help, take lessons.

Chaff/Flair, that’s good to know. Maybe I can make myself a decent pair of straight teeth!

Got one and gonna do lessons. It’s the notes and tuening and the “ear” for music that’s intimidating me a bit. I need a machine to tune my violin. And, with violin, no frets, so you have to be able to hear the note. Unable, yet

I’ve made a bunch! You should go to an office where they do it and voulunteer. It’s totally fascinating. Voulunteering is where I have learned the most, in fact, you just inspire me to do it with violin. Thanks brotha! I’m not kidding though, I made my own tooth voulunteering there, #8. Still working

Chaff, if you like small instruments but don’t have the ear, try a mandolin or something like that.

Violin is what I want, I’ll get the ear somehow. I’m stubborn.
