Hooker, Electric guitar, or Disk golf basket?

Hey guys, thanks for feedback.
I ended up not celebrating and hooker is out of question, at least for now (can’t justify throwing money away like that), but I am still on the fence about a guitar. Anything above $200 is kinda out of my budget right now, but I don’t want to buy a piece of crap either…
I see all these cheap (~$100) guitars at pawn shops and craigslist ads and can’t find anything wrong with them – but I don’t know what I should be looking at.
Are there any reliable resources online where I could see guitars rated by manufacturers and by models, or something like a guide for finding an OK used guitar?
I know how to choose an acoustic one, and that it’s really important, but electric guitars? Are they really so different from each other? I mean if the sound is being picked up electronically, then you can make an electric guitar out of a f~~~ing shovel and it still might sound good? Please help me out here
