I hold the door open because of who I am, not because of who they are. I am a good guy and I that which lets me look at myself in the mirror. If they want to act the ass for it, let THEM deal with that when they look at a mirror. Fortunately, there are still people out there who appreciate that, so it’s not all bad.

Totally agree. I hold the door open for whoever, male or female, because it’s manners. I don’t care if it’s old-fashioned or sexist. I don’t want to change who I am because someone else might be a c~~~.

Whenever you hold the door open, be certain to do it with the smuggest patronizing patriarchal smile possible.

I recently held the door for a while for a very very old woman with a cane who was struggling even to move slowly. She made a special point to look me in eyes and say thank with true sincerity. That made it worth it to me. Long gone is that type of respect from modern woman.

I hold it open for all sorts. I’ve had a couple times where a girl would be a smart-ass (I live in a majorly liberal college town), at which point I’ll respond “Then don’t walk through it if it bothers you that much.” and go on my way. I’ll give anybody the benefit of the doubt when it comes to common courtesy, regardless of gender, but if they snap back then I have a handy list of lines I’ll sort through.

“I just do it for the view.” is one of my favorites. Deliver that with a genuine smile and watch their hamster run. Gives me a chuckle every time.
