So i’ve been thinking about about how to start a foundation for young men, young black men in particular. I see how these young boys are being raised by these single mothers who berate them and make them feel like they are less than. The see a life of crime as admirable and would rather get fast money than legal money. Young black men lead the country in dropping out of high school and have the highest incarceration numbers. I would like to do my part to change that. I just don’t know what to do or which way to focus a foundation.

I want to be able to get together men in the community. Lawyers, police officers, teachers, coaches, principals, and just affluent men in the community. I want to get these men together to be able to show the young men that their is a better way forward in life.

I want to teach them about financial & personal responsibility. If i can reach this group of young men on that level, we could put a stop to the prisons being filled, and these fatherless homes being so abundant. I could even bring in money experts to teach them about the basics of finance and investing, so they will be a step above most people.

Also want to show them to dress for success. Get them in some suits and business attire. That will stop the pants sagging trend.

This has not been done the way i want to do it. The other times black men have been brought together, it has been to show them that they are victims. I’m not doing that bulls~~~. They are not victims, they are winners. All they need is someone to tell them that.

But I need ideas on what else to teach them, and show them. Obviously this is something i would do a bit later in life, but i was thinking about this today, and i thought why not try to put pen to paper and figure it out.

    What about after school programs?
How could we teach them about avoiding the tricks of women?
    What about peer pressure?

    Let’s throw around some ideas.

You could reach out to the boys and girls club and let them know you have a program designed for say 10 people at a time
Layout the plan with what you want to cover and get it approved by the organization

Give away Jordans everytime they do one of things you want them to. Expensive but would work.

On a more serious note, maybe gather a group of men who would like to join you on your mission and travel around schools spreading your word(like Christian missionaries).

The problem is their environment. It is hard convincing them to do the “right” thing when surrounded by so much bulls~~~ growing up. I feel like that has to change first.

I think that will be the most difficult. Getting the parents of students who don’t care about their kids, to now suddenly care about the students. It’s sickening that people have kids with no intention of raising them, but that’s the world we live in.

How do you change the minds of pathetic parents?

Why limit to one race? Seriously.

Besides you are starting with a demographic where 80% of the boys don’t have a dad around. The women raising these boys do not care about the boys. They are not going to send them to a program like this. They care so little for their boys they will not do this. Look how they treat the men in their lives, as sperm donors and atms. They do not care about the sons. Given how they act themselves, they don’t care much about their girls either. They are the role model and that’s how the girls are going to turn out.

You know the last female men want to date is a black female. The last 50 years has generated the reason why. These boys even if MGTOW would never touch a black girl in the first place – no hope of that if they went MGTOW as at least 80% of them are just looking at a guy for a baby and money.

If you want to do this don’t start it out limited to just one race, especially the one in the worst shape to respond to such a program.

Now you may know something about the demographic I do not, that says they would respond to it better, and if you do, please let me know. I don’t want to be thinking under poor assumptions.

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

Your right, i shouldn’t just limit it to just one race. It should be for young men in general. I was watching Tommy Sotomayor on Youtube today, if you haven’t heard of him, check him out. And he was talking about how men always get the short end of the stick and how young black men raised by these single mothers have to survive childhood to become an adult. That is what made me think to just do it for young black males.

It should be for all males, because truthfully, all males need this information. The more young men we can reach, the better off everyone will be.

Best of luck on this noble idea and as I have posted to like links in the past, this is a very difficult issue to address. First off however, this needs to be race neutral. There are children of need in every race and ethnicity.

It has been tried in several major cities that I know of and had the backing of City County Government, Police/Fire, School Administration, Local Civic Clubs (Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, Civitan, etc), Local Judicial members, Law firms, Educators, public/private groups, University Fraternities and Sororities, Higher education students (University, College, Community College), etc.

I was involved with the effort for over 12 years and we made a marginal difference to the overall group. Yes, there were some individual successes, but nothing consistent.

Workshops to students and caregivers. Money to tutors for at risk students. Money for after school programs for students. Money for computers, dress clothes, after school meals, internet service for at risk schools. Professional mentorship programs with persons of color within high growth firms. Visits to theatre, drama, music, museum events were coordinated and paid for. Peer discussions with persons of color by very successful and not so successful adults. School backpack programs with supplies and food for the entire school year. Presentations regarding workplace, dining, job interviews, attending theatre, etiquette were held once a quarter. We even had students attending culinary class meals (3 to 4 course) at a local Community College to be exposed to cuisine from around the World.

The list goes on of the efforts tried, but there was never a magic formula for what worked for any single child, let alone all of them as a group.

Blacks, Hispanic, White, or a mix, the personnel involved were all great people with the best of intentions. The success rate was never good and the resources have since been put into infrastructure type initiatives.

Local, regional, statewide and national levels all are facing the same issues.

    Start a Scout Troop.
If you don’t have bushcraft skills find a dude or two that does.

The things you mentioned about finance, grooming, looking sharp are all a part of Scouting, if done right.

Scouting doesn’t have to be expensive. Usually you can find a church that will donate their basement once/twice a week. Look to Military Surplus for outdoor gear.

In my troop we collected news papers and cans to help fund stuff. Sure the Scout Master dipped into his pocket but that wasn’t the point. The point was, we worked for what we got. We earned it.

Get these boys into the woods.
This gets them OUT of the concrete jungle and in the company of good men.

IMO being able to take care of your self in the sticks pays dividends your entire live.

Shrug. My .02. You asked. 🙂

I like that idea. We could get these guys into some Hunter education classes and get them weapons trained. That training teaches discipline. There are plenty of hunting clubs and lodges down here in the South, and i’m sure they will allow the guys to come on the land and hunt some animals. The biggest thing i like about hunting lodges is the people that you meet. It would be a great experience to get those young men to sit down and listen to some old veterans tell stories around a campfire, after a day of hunting or fishing.

Let’s get back to nature and back to the basics.

    YEEEEEES!
Proper firearm training, not that hold your handgun sideways s~~~. Safety always safety.

    Fishing, Hunting and Bushcraft.
As a youngster we went camping once a month.
Weekly meetings were used to teach. Especially teach the things you talked about.

Damn Greg that was the most exhaustive list I’ve read regarding any subject in a long time

I was very heavily involved with all manners of volunteerism for close to two decades and had the privelidge of being a member of many clubs and organizations growing up.

The solutions, like anti-biotics, are not new, but the problems, like viruses, are becoming resistent to solutions. Thinking up new solutions is not easy as there are so many children, adults, elders in need of assistance that you try for 30,000 feet solutions.

No saying that we should not try to solve them however, that is never an option.

Another idea that might be right up your alley.

You had mentioned *I Think* that you were a volunteer fireman, yes?

Start a Junior Firefighter type club.
All the lessons you want to impart can be done in firefighting training, yes?

Obviously in such a thing, safety would be paramount.

I like the idea of Scouting better but I am biased.
Jr. Firefighter training is a good second.

    I can see that
It almost comes down to after all that effort if you saved one person it was worth it.

People have to believe that easy isn’t better
Some things hurt and are incredibly difficult but the rewards are always long lasting and you own the result

It would take a value shift to effect change on a large scale

Whatever you decide to do, you will have to find a way to bleed off the extra energy that these youngsters have.

Work the s~~~ out of them but make it not seem like work.
    Tall order, I know.

Volunteer work would be great. I saw on tv a while ago, this organization that builds ramps for children that are bound to wheelchair. The organization helps to make their homes wheelchair accessible. I think it would be good to get these guys to help people less fortunate than them. The can see what it feels like to help someone in need. There is a lesson in that.

Yes it would but try convincing a bunch of ignored youngsters that it is.

JMO but they have to have skin in the game.
In other words I think they have to see what they get out of it. Volunteer work is noble but…..
