I don’t understand why Hollywood likes to portray roles with Asian leads with non-Asian characters.

Me neither, man. It bugs me. Not a SJW-level rage, but an annoyance.

It is something that bothers me too, not because asian/non-asian, but because it change things and I don’t like it, I like the original story on the original environment (aka world) where it is supposed to be.

Like a asian guy to be Spawn, or a guy for playing Rippley (from Alien), or a girl to be a Ghostbuster…

I hope it turns out great. I also loved the 1995 movie. If it doesn’t I’ll not let it spoil my memory of the original.

I can’t say that I am holding out much hope for the live-action GitS being any good. Just look at the track record of Anime to Live Action remakes. Very few have ever been good. Even when the Japanese do the live action themselves it rarely turns out well (Gantz, and the Live action Attack on Titan were terrible).

I think the main problem is that animation is highly stylized by the artwork. When you transition to live action that is completely lost. Then you are normally going from a 13 episode saga to a 90 minute movie, so they cut away all the nuance first thing and compress the story so it is unrecognizable. Everything you loved about the original ends up on the cutting room floor.

When they finally realize this, and start making original stories that add to the series instead of rehashing the old we might start getting some decent ones, but I won’t hold my breath.

Hollywood will f~~~ this up most likely. I enjoyed the first anime adaptation of the manga, but overall this genre of sci-fi doesn’t really do it for me.

I guess Hollywood is probably going to start butchering manga now that they have made a zillion different movies based on western comics.

Anime/Manga does not translate well to live action. I don’t care what anyone says.

The Children of Doom... Doom's Children. They told my lord the way to the Mountain of Power. They told him to throw down his sword and return to the Earth... Ha! Time enough for the Earth in the grave.

Everything that makes manga/anime unique is completely lost when you have real actors.

Ghost in the shell, innocence and solid stat society, the stand alone complex. the rest was just crap to make money.

I really like Scarlett Johansson she was great as the black widow but the live GITS movie spell bad news, clearly based on GITS1 and part Innocence, Batoo looks awful.

I won’t pass judgment before seeing the actual movie but i am going in with very small expectations. So far what i have seen did not impress me one bit.

GITS is a very complex series and I’m not sure it will convert to a real action movie format well. The artwork in the original movie was insane and was partly why it appealed to so many people.

Beat Takeshi is in it (Takeshi Kitano), one of my fave Jap actors/directors. Wonder how much screen time he gets.

I much prefer Akira to Ghost in the Shell, but still like the premise of Ghost in the Shell. I did download the new Ghost in the Shell anime, but it was in Japanese with no subtitles. P~~~ed me off lol.

The live action will most likely be utter s~~~e, but i will still give it a chance and go see it.
