If you are only doing good because you fear punishment from some deity after you die, then you should be the one questioning your morals. Religion didn’t invent morality. The Earth is around 4.6 billion years old, and modern man has existed for roughly 200,000 years. The oldest major religions of the world have been around for only a few thousand years at most. In other words, organized religion has only been around for about 2% of our time on this planet. If organized religion was necessary for survival, we would have died out a long time ago.

Religion is a control tool, whether you like it or not. It’s a giant money scam to keep people living as mindless sheep and forking over their money to the church. Thankfully, I woke up from that fantasy. Look at how the heads of religious organizations live in luxury, while promising you your little life of pleasure AFTER YOU DIE! All you have to do is be a good little sheep and do what they tell you, and you’ll be rewarded when you die.

I choose to use my brain, and I refuse to be anybody’s slave. I question everything and I don’t buy into bulls~~~ just because some goat herder wrote it in a book 2,000 years ago.

Yes, Buddhism is atheistic but they believe in a universal ethic AND an afterlife.

Blade’s topic on F~~~ ISLAM lists all sorts of evil done by muslims. Atheism justifies these behaviors because there is no God and no after life and no accountability. Therefore, all is permissible. Those who are the most powerful can do whatever they want.

Anyone on the forums here ever been under anesthesia? While you were under, did you see any divine powers? I sure as f~~~ didn’t. You’re basically brain dead while under anesthesia. It’s the closest to death you can get without actually dying. And there are many cases where people don’t wake up from anesthesia.

Not an atheist myself, but once the brain is done, you are done. I don’t see that as a bad thing. You go to sleep and that’s it. Peace. I hope that I’m wrong and after I die my soul ascends to heaven. But I’m not very optimistic.

Hate to break it to anyone whining about morals but might makes right has always been the rule, even under the guise of concepts like deterrence. To say that people need religion to behave, well, that’s not too far off from notions like participation trophies and welfare checks. The state is no god, but it is within objective, observable reality, and until others can come up with an opposing ideology and win, they will dictate the rules because they have the most power.
