I don’t enjoy it, but it builds my mental discipline, cardio and that’s one of the reasons I CHOOSE to do it.

I didn’t like running when I got into it. But I hated myself and I framed it (successfully) as punishment. Eventually that distaste and unbridled self-loathing transformed into a form of joy. Running is like meditation to me. I block out time to do it, even when I don’t feel like it.

Remember to be consistent, because the times where you DON’T want to do the thing you’re trying to do consistently are the most important. Stop making excuses and just do. I run in 95-degree heat sometimes. It’s not pleasant and I look like an ice cream on the sidewalk when I’m done.

I don’t run for long distances unless a bear is chasing me… but there is a physical limit for the body. As the muscles burn up energy they fill with the byproduct which signals the brain that the muscle is tired. That’s when you generally stop. But if you talk to marathon runners, they tell you that you can push through that wall, you tired way earlier than your muscles are actually tired and out of energy. I don’t know how you go about pushing through other than mental fortitude though.

maybe the new routine is giving you workout overload or whatever. like running works the same leg muscles, and overtime, your leg muscles will start to not function as well as it could be. maybe add some variety to your activities?

but yeah, sounds like you are exercising vigorousoy or competitively. having a bud, to run with you, could help.

I’ve run 2 – 32 mile trail races and a 40miler one up and down a mountain so far this year. Not counting a few halfs, a 10 miler and some other stuff sprinkled in.

Find a trail running group. Looking at girls asses in shorts or tights will keep you moving.

Get off the road and into the woods. Run at a pace that doesn’t make you breathless and walk when you want to for a bit.

Do this and pretty soon you will be clocking the miles away like its nothing.

    Happy Running –

It is really simple if you want to increase distance, you do it gradually. Start with 5 then rest, then 6, then 7, etc.

To me running is boring and I think it is bad for your joints, but I can do ironman sized cycle distance pretty easily when in peak form. When season starts I start with 10% distance though.

That depends on your form. Most people have terrible running form and honestly, your shoes probably aren’t helping you. Shoes naturally change the point of impact from your pads to your heels, which changes how much of the impact gets distributed. Look at how wildcats run–they strike with the front of the foot and use their toes to grip and drag forward. You should be emulating this motion, even if you’re in shoes. The shoes are just there to eat nails and protect you from hot concrete.

Also, the cartilage and tendons actually get longer and stronger as you use them, provided you don’t have s~~~ form (like everybody I see running where I live) and aren’t some dope trying to strap 50 pounds on their back and run marathons with it.

Great advice fellas, I’m changing my posture and pace. Very hot but feeling stronger. I added more calories to increase stamina as well. Up to 5miles in 90 plus heat.
