I’m trying like hell to just get about 10 more years, hopefully less, out of my sh)tty thankless job so I can just be done with the world of work.

I not only don’t want this job that I currently have, but I sure as hell don’t want any other either.

I guess that it doesn’t help that I have NO FU(KS TO GIVE about “the world of work” as well as MANY other things in my life as well as in this Matrix.

It sure would be nice to NOT be locked into a job that is almost impossible for me to leave due to my age/income/pension etc.

    I just want out.

Then again, I just want out of pretty much everything.

Wouldn’t it be NICE to just have my lil place, a couple bucks coming in reliably without having to put up with other people’s sh)t, and the kids all be self-sufficient adults as well as the resident hag a distant memory??????

I KNOW that I want way too much after a lifetime of working for the man.

    Freedom…..What’s that???

It’s out there. It’s a combination of making the most of your pension/ss and keeping your lifestyle cheap. Buy a house cash. Even if it’s a piece of s~~~ costing $30,000.00. Then you will be free. My pension is pretty high, I’m a retired doctor, but I don’t live to spend money and I am free.

I agree with ya—-I’m partial to a lil quiet trailer park that I have first hand knowledge of. It’s a small park, located in a nice area, and that would work for me. The trailers are well kept and very affordable as compared to a house.

A place that’s just big enough for ME…..I don’t need a lot, and I desire even less as I age….I want to keep it small, keep it simple, and keep it CHEAP!!!

I just don’t need 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a half acre lot blah, blah, blah

Its true, you dont need a lot. Just make sure its a well run trailer park that vets prospective folks before they let them in. You dont want to have a little place with neighbors very close to you that you cannot stand and no trailer park owner who cares about the place.

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

I don’t know how trailer parks work in the US but in the UK they are often quite expensive in the long run because you are paying site fees and then the trailer loses value quite fast while the housing market rises due to inflation, so a bad house is probably a better buy than a good trailer if you are planning to live a long and happy retirement.

I got divorced at 40, and not having a wife who made us live paycheque to paycheque anymore I started saving every penny I could.

Six years on I own a house with a 50% mortgage outstanding and currently have a years take home salary in the bank. Like you a few years ago I started to realise how much I hate working and how the majority of jobs are completely pointless. How we have been convinced we need a career and need to get into debt to buy things to impress other people so we need to work forever. F~~~ that.

I too am thinking ten years ahead, in ten years time I want to be in a position where I can just walk out and be able to live with nobody having any hold over me. This means a paid for house and some cash in the bank, I don’t even mind doing a part time job if I don’t have to think and there is the minimum responsibility possible. My child support payments stop in 7 years so I am hoping to have the mortgage paid off by then and then be able to save every penny I earn.

I am happy to drive old cars, and with a paid off house I can live well on little money. I have no desire to travel or buy expensive things, all I want is to relax and have no responsibility to anything or anyone and no worries.

For women, everything eventually boils down to Alpha Fucks, Beta Bucks.

    Hang in there!
I very recently decided to quit my well paying job in 2023. I can’t stand the mind numbing environment, and I refuse to kneel at the altar of PC/woke culture that that it has turned into. It took some soul searching even to reach a deadline to resign as I was blinded by the money, had apprehensions about my future, and also 10 more years of child support to squeeze out. But, I need to just leave and restart my life elsewhere.

Yeah, I agree that’s pretty much it in a nutshell.

As far as the trailer park that’s in my area in the states; It’s professionally owned and operated with MANY/MOST long term MATURE tenants. I know someone that lives there, and they report that it’s a QUIET place to be. They are mostly older trailers, so there’s not a whole lot of depreciation left on them, and most things on a small trailer are more affordable to repair/replace then on a house. We can start with the roof and go from there.

Their monthly lot rental fees are CHEAP especially because you are NOT on the hook for property taxes on YOUR DWELLING. My friend pays far less in lot fees than I currently pay on my current home’s property tax annually. It’s NOT an equal comparison in size etc., but who cares as you don’t need a ton of dough to buy a decent trailer as you do with most houses. I’ve been down the “fixer-Upper” road with houses, and that too can bleed ya dry.

Personally, I don’t care about depreciation or re-sale as I intend to live my last days out in it…..

I’m not saying that I wouldn’t do a lil house, but for the fraction of the investment with comparable expenses; it is definitely a CHEAP alternative FOR ME.

I live in a trailer. Single wide, two bedrooms, one bath, about 750 square feet. I have a patio when I can grill burgers and enjoy a couple beers and a cigar. I have a modest yard to take care of.
My lot rent is $500/month. Trailer is paid off.
Overall, I am content, though I wish I had more space for bookshelves. I don’t care one whit about keeping up with the Joneses or what other people think about me.

From what I can understand, the trailer park option is very different in the US from the UK. Over here, the trailer scene is riddled with scammers and crooks. It’s not an option I would go down.

I would say that in the UK if you want to avoid a caravan park or a house, the best option is either to go fully mobile or to live on a boat.

Twice, I came very close to buying a boat as a live-aboard, but on both occasions there was a problem … a female problem. Boats have a lot to recommend them.

I rent an apartment upstairs from a gay bar that’s open literally all night, including loud music. Earplugs are cheap and so is my rent. I want to buy a condo and have enough time to pay it off before I retire, but I don’t want New York to be the place where I do that. So for now it’s $ave $ave $ave

Les than 3 years for early retirement.
As soon as possible without missing out on a long-earned pension.
I have no intention of sticking my neck out and being a slave to anyone anymore.
I will live as cheaply and simply as necessary to get by on what I receive.

Bought my house last year. Hope to pay off in about 10, 15 to retirement. My goal is a paid off house, older but running grey man style car, and ability to golf a few times a week. Alone if possible… might get therr… but if not, will move back up north where I can, as it is a lot cheaper there than Florida.

I just don’t need 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a half acre lot blah, blah, blah

I can’t stand neighbors, but I was so desperate to get out when my marriage came to an end, I almost rented a trailer in a park. Then I found out it would be cheaper per month to buy a brand new singlewide and put it on a small piece of land. I like the peace and quiet as well, but I also enjoy the freedom of blaring my music and shooting my guns and walking out in my yard to take a pi$$ without any complaints. I just wouldn’t be able to survive a trailer park. Neighbors make me miserable.

I don’t need the 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, but that’s what the house came with so that’s what I got, even though, the two small bedrooms I just use for storage. I also didn’t need the acre of land that I have, but I got it really cheap and I almost bought more land that was hooked to that for neighbor control, but someone else recently bought that land. Fortunately, I think he just likes to buy up and own as much land as he can so he’ll probably do nothing with it. If that’s the case, then I’m glad he bought it so I didn’t have to, even though it was also very cheap.

No one wants to have to work for someone else, but we gotta’ make a living and pay the bills. I’m fortunate to have a pretty good job and a pretty good boss, but it would be nice to sleep as late as I want every morning and not have to worry about the stressful things in my work. Not even sure if I’ll live another 10 years, but I don’t even think about retirement. I just deal with the job as best I can and try to make the most out of what’s left of my life.

I don’t have a cell phone. I don’t have internet or computer at home. All I have besides the utilities is a cable/phone bill, (and house payment, but it’s either that or rent and I prefer to own my home). I keep my cupboards full of food, my fridge full of beer, my cabinet full of liquor, my humidor full of cigars and my pocket full of cash. I go out once or twice a week to eat and drink and talk and play chess with friends, but most days I go straight home from work and just be free. I don’t take expensive vacations. I just came off a two week vacation where I spent most of my time home alone and it was wonderful. I sit out on the back deck and enjoy nature, a drink and a cigar. Sometimes I grill some meat. Sometimes I just wander around my small plot of land and through the trees and breath the fresh air of freedom. I love listening to the birds and squirrels rustling through the trees.

I may still have to work for a living, but I’ve been more free for the last 8 years than I’ve been in a long time. I’ve said it so much, you’re all probably sick of reading it, but no matter what happens at work today, in a few hours I’ll be home alone and enjoying the good and simple life. Put out a little seed for the birds, have a few beers, watch a little TV and later, eat a little supper and then go to bed and enjoy the queen size bed all to myself.

I’ve been married. I am no longer married. I know what freedom is and I’m free.

It’s close to perfect, I’d say. I’m pretty happy with it. Last night I was thinking about what a good life I have not being married anymore. (I think about it almost every day actually.) I was cooking up a simple supper. Fried butterfly pork chops with a little spicy seasoning, Stove Top Stuffing and green beans with bacon grease in them. The only thing that would’ve made it better is if I could’ve grilled the chops, but it was too dark and cold last night. Can’t do much grilling this time of year unless it’s a day I don’t have to work.

Even something as simple as cooking up supper is so much more enjoyable when you’re livin’ the free life without a damn wife. I am so very thankful.

I’ve been retired for 8 years. I no longer feel the guilt of not contributing to society. I felt the urge to contribute for like 5 years. Now I get up when I feel like leaving the bed…around 9 and the heat kicks in. I live in the cold North East. It’s great not leaving the covers until I feel good and ready.

Work sucks but you have to have a plan of escape. How much you need depends on how ensconced in the matrix you are. Personally I’m more on the minimalist side but I do spend money eating well. That said my plan is a cheap piece of land out west that I get ready over the next five years. I’ll start parking my RV on it a few months of the year and eventually I’ll put some type of small cheap cabin on it. All of it will be paid for in cash and it won’t be expensive.

I’ll be traveling a few months each year in addition staying mostly on public lands for free and then I will work the rest of the year. I’ll do some sporadic fly in dates with my tribute bands And probably work three or four months in Florida playing at resorts on the water but I’ll likely quit that in 3-5 years on the outside. Plan to save 20-50k a year for about 15 years. Some precious medals, gold, crypto, etc. spread it out. Ya know, in case the world doesn’t go zombie.

The key is to keep costs low. Well at least for me it is. I’ve spent a little time as possible plugged into the matrix.

Be professional be polite but always have a plan to kill everyone you meet.
