I was at my A & A cult meeting this morning and the topic was ‘faith’ … though I’m a natural skeptic, I have learned to ease down my prejudices and resentments towards faith. I sometimes affectionately say, ‘faith is a celebration of fear.’

In any event, I have full confidence in the tides of providence swinging back my way with $40. I know I don’t run the show! “God’s will” not mine be done, especially since I acknowledge I have no will in the first place, it doesn’t come from me, perhaps from ‘him.’ I’m only compelled to do anything, I don’t choose to. And things I think of, merely occur to me, I didn’t originate them. I watch myself go about my life as a passenger on a train swaying with the movements of the rail.

Sometimes I fight the current of the cosmos, a futile and insane behavior. Squirming like a worm, I do not WILL anything. Any ‘WILL” I have is on loan from God so to speak. Borrowed.

Well. I may not be able to chat much today. Its a paperwork kind of day around the office.

Man, my chicken and noodles turned out really good, but then it always does, being a simple dish. I usually use a small young chicken, but this time I used one of those big family roasters so there is a ton more chicken in it. I’d say the ratio is 1:1, not that it’s a bad thing. I ate way too much while I was watching the stupid Chiefs lose. I greatly dislike Tom Brady and was hoping for his defeat. Reckon I can still hope for it in the Super Bowl. Maybe Mahomes will gain some experience and maturity from this and the Chiefs will do better next year…………..damn their useless defense letting the Patriots just waltz down the field.

He knew what choices you would make and how many times you would change your mind before you born, before your parents were born, before their parents were born. So what? That doesn’t make your decisions predestined. We can make choices and we can change our minds and change directions as many times as we want.

You seem to be confusing knowing the future with controlling it. Let’s say there are three doors in front of you and only I know what is behind each door. The choice of which door to open is yours and I already know what door you will eventually choose even though you will change your mind several times. Just because I have the knowledge of your decision, does that mean you were predestined to open the door you chose? No, of course not. You could’ve just as easily opened either of the other two.

God knows the future, but you are still free to go down any path you want. You have to power to choose. You are not destined to make only one choice. God knows, but He isn’t forcing you to make that choice.

There were times when I thought my life would never change. I thought I was stuck on one path that I could never get off. Things changed. I made choices to better my life. I am on a different and better path now.

Does knowing in which state I live give you some sense of satisfaction now? Is it enough to know the state? Will you now insist on knowing the county? Will it bother you not knowing which town is closest to where I live?

I know Hermit answered this question, but I have slightly different answer. You’re thinking of the future as something that’s undefined, because it’s hasn’t happened yet. If you think of time as a 4th dimension, along with standard X,Y,Z axis defining 3 dimensional space, then it is something that can be defined. We are currently only capable of defining things in 4 dimensions for things occurring in the past, but that limitation clearly doesn’t need to apply to God. There’s no reason to think that God is under the same cognitive and sensory restrictions that humans are. In fact there is no reason to assume that there is not a 5th, 6th, 7th and so on dimension in which you define objects/occurrences. We are not capable of that perception, but what if that level of perception is possible and God has it? That would not only mean that God that is aware of future events and would have the ability to modify them if He so choses (the same way we can modify objects in 3 dimensional space, but can also simply observe. It also would mean trying to pass judgement on God for his reasoning and judgements would be rather foolish, since we have the same level of perspective of an ant judging a human.

As far as God knowing who will reject him at birth, why is that a concern. I can see where it would matter if a parent knew that a child would later reject them, but parents are human and flawed while God is neither. We can’t assume the behavior of God by extrapolating the behavior of humans. I really suspect that the Universe and the nature of God is much more complicated than we think it is, particularly with what little information we actually and possibly are capable of perceiving.

Then again, maybe none of it’s real.
