Common core was an attempt by liberals to dumb down American kids. The Obama administration secretly put it into schools to make Americans easier to control. Dumb them down then send them to liberal colleges like Berkeley to make them slaves of liberal programs. Control health care, education and flood the country with immigrants hostile to western culture, and you have tricked the people into peacefully overthrowing themselves.

    Guys that’s bad.

Dumb people make smart reliable people even more important, means better life style, money and power.

You can be the best at what you do, or be the only one… wich one you think is better?

Education should be local. CC was an attempt by the federal government to take over the whole system. Glad to see it failing.

I really loathed teaching common core bulls~~~. I taught the common core method, and the kids stumbled. the smarter kids would figure out a better way and then I could teach the normal method as an alternative. so stupid.

While dropping Common Core helped, it wasn’t the only factor at work.

First, Mason Classical is a charter> school. It’s students are there because their parents care enough to send them to a charter school. Engaged parents, parents who read to their children, parents who make them do homework, parents who care, are a huge bonus in a child’s education.

Second, Mason Classical’s demographics do not in anyway represent the community’s demographics. There’s no way to put this politely, but Mason has fewer black, Hispanic, and white trash students and that makes for a huge difference. The turd doesn’t fall too far from the bird and parents in the socio-economic classes I listed are rarely if ever the engaged parents I wrote about earlier.

We’ve all seen the international scholastic rankings for science, math, literature, and the like in which the US performs poorly. There two dirty little secrets in those rankings. First, the US submits test scores from all children while most other nations cherry pick which scores to submit.

Second, and most importantly, if you remove black and Hispanic student from US tests scores, the US would routinely rank in the top five or higher on every category.

Mason Classical’s student learn because their parents want them to learn and because they’re among other students who want to learn. While dropping Common Core was part of the equation, it wasn’t the only factor at work.

You must appreciate what schools and universities are really there for and it’s not education.

There is no test of intelligence, nor intellect, nor problem solving it is simply an indoctrination centre where one is told facts (often so called facts) and then tested to make sure the brainwashing is complete.

IF you don’t regurgitate it all verbatim you don’t get good grades and you are a failure.

Think about the stress we put them under exam, revision, 3 hours homework per night and at the weekend-I went to a Grammar school when did I have time to play or ride my bike?

Teach them to read and think for themselves.

my last school did not allow reading out loud in class, spelling tests or rote learning of math facts.

my last class of fifth grade kids could not line up quietly to walk down a hallway to get their taxpayer funded free lunch.

And the government hates charter schools for this very reason. If I had school age kids I would not want to send them to a public school.

Yes but there are downsides as well. Less people to rely on. More dumb people in authority positions blocking you. More people that will screw up your plans. More people that are dumb they can accidentally injure or kill you (aka text driving, etc). More pressure on the smart people to keep things working so they literally dont blow up or lose power.

Not a great way to advocate for more stupid people.

Common Core was the latest in a long line of bulls~~~ educational experiments that have failed miserably. Jeb Bush, however, made a few millions of dollars ramming it down our throats. So glad Trump wasted that POS in the primary.

We have the “Safe School’s Program” down here which is all about pushing homosexuality on kids and making boys feel guilty about everything. Also about sexualizing kids at an early age. All part of the dumbing down and control process.

There is no compelling reason for a federal standard on education. As long as there is no gross deficiency federal intervention is less about advancing students to abuse.

Seems common core makes math more difficult to solve logically than w/o it. It made no sense on how to add up to 20. So ridiculous.

Common Core may be what we have, but it’s not the beginning. My grand daughter “graduated” (had to give them SOME kind of feeling of accomplishment) in 2009. I went to the ceremony to show my love an support. Part of the activity was that to show how accomplished our younguns’ had become. The principle wanted to read from the book the whole class had voted as their favorite. I expected to hear an excerpt from a from one of the then popular, young adult novels. I was surprised! We got the whole book! It was like something I had read in the third grade, complete with the pictures screened from a lap top. As much as I lived reading and learning as a kid(not school, not in the deep south, 50 years ago)I was crushed, I was horrified… I was just damned angry. My grand daughter was expected to graduate high school in 4 years after this?!?
