I’m re-writing an entirely new D&D style RPG and I’m in the middle of writing the magic spells, I suggest they cast: Stink eye—level 1, 10 points, affects one person, verbal abd somatic gesture required.

Result: spell causes the target to laugh hysterically at how stupid and idiot the Mage is for attempting this!

My goodness I miss first edition AD&D. Good stuff, that. I’ve tried over the years to get a group going again, but it’s never quite panned out. There’s a game store somewhat close to me, near the University of Insert State Name Here, but most of the players are so much younger that I vaguely feel like a pedo whenever I wander over. Also, they all play 5th edition, because, I kid you not, “it doesn’t get so bogged down in math and stuff so that you can just play a character”. My sense is that’s a bad thing.

Possibly, but first and second edition rules were a bit clunky. The THAC0 armor class system was stupidly set up to begin with and needed to be overhauled. I have seen some fifth edition played on a show called Critical Role and it is a bit more streamlined. I would also like to play it again at some point, but finding people is not easy, especially when you are past your early 20’s and generally looking for people somewhere around the same age as you are. Only way to get my fix on RPG stuff at this point is computer gaming, but I don’t have the time that I used to have anymore.

All of them. It’s annoyed me so much when they talked about energy, prayers, planetary and stars alignments while being depressed every 2 weeks or so. Well if you’re so ‘holistic’ and ‘spiritual’ while still having breakdowns, clearly those aren’t work, are they?

I remember back i 81(?) the planets were going to line up, and the world was supposed to end on that day at 5pm. My stupid 2 nd wife was terrifide!! Hhaah. I set the old wind up clock alarm for 5 oclock and sat and quietly and waited. Shes sweating, biteing her nails.

I learned both Editions and Pathfinder. Unless you are playing with seasoned veterans, game time is spent explaining things to newer players. 5e mitigates this and more time is spent playing. If you don’t feel welcome among your local crowds, consider Fantasy Grounds. Its over the internet with voice chat. It uses digital maps, dice, character sheets, tokens, images, etc. You apply for groups on their forums according to what you want.
