Setting aside for the moment all the arguments about who owns what–there is the simple issue of practicality.

Facts:

The city is religiously important to three religions;

Under Jordanian/muslim administration everyone non-muslim was prevented from practicing their religion and non-muslim centers for worship were destroyed.

Under Israeli administration EVERYONE can practice their faith.

So seems pretty simple to me what the correct choice is here.

More likely Israel would surround itself with a radioactive wasteland of former muslim states. And even if that doesn’t kick off World War Three, at the very least it would make it very expensive to get the oil out.
