    The way to get rid of someone else’s fat is as follows.

    Tell your fat friend that with her looks, they should put a statue of her in a museum … this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_of_Willendorf ! You’ll get rid of her in a jiffy!

    Here is the way to deal with yours.

    This is a lesson that anyone who had to drag his ass through a college course on physiology will recognize. (Makes ya wonder why there are so many fat doctors and nurses, don’t it?) This is not new. William Banting published a how to do it guide in the 1860s, which is still in print and available as a free download: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Banting

    I eat this way when I’m on top of my game. It works for me.

    I REALLY need to get rid of my mid-section fat…hopefully this works.  My legs and arms are pretty toned out now, but I look ridiculous carrying all this middle weight.  I’m gonna watch the video and see what I can learn from it.  Thanks for this!

    For me I was always a little thick in the middle not fat but not great either. After 5 years of minimal success at the gym I made one change. Cut out my cardio. I do all free weight. 3x a week and in the last 6 months what a change. The fat has been melting off. Fat doesn’t burn fat, muscle burns fat.

    READ:  Man 2.o: Engineering the Alpha

    I’m 40 now.  I’ve been using their method for over a year.  I lost 25 pounds in the first 2 months w/o exercise.  I was at my target weight in 4 months.  I have maintained my weight and lowered my body-fat while increasing muscle mass in the months since.  I feel like I did in my 20’s.  It is amazing.

    Their approach is hormone regulation.  I fast for at least 16 hours every 24.  This means that I eat from 3pm to 10:30-11pm.  I avoid carbs early, and avoid sugars at night.  I now work out 5 times a week; but I lost the weight before I started hitting the gym.

    It was hard for me at first, because I hate hunger.  The really great thing about the program, is that after just 2 weeks of sticking to the plan, the hunger is completely gone.  I haven’t experienced hunger in months.  I have to set my phone alarm to remind me it is time to eat.  It is the best way to live.  I don’t have to count calories; I just eat healthy.

    I continually recommend it to all my dad-bod friends.  So far, they won’t try it.  It sounds too scary.  They see the results it has had on my life, but still won’t give it a shot.  Baffling.  Their wives notice though.  Promise you that.

    @Red-Headed Stranger.

    That is great! Do right for your body, and it’s amazing how well things work out.

    About your friends, I have noticed the same thing. I have known obese diabetics who would rather die than give up junk food, etc, etc. Don’t let them suck you in. Keep on doing what is right for you, and keep on Going Your Own Way.

    And, in related news … I was reading this the other day:

    Mediterranean Diet with Olive Oil, Nuts Linked to Healthier Brain

    “The group following a Mediterranean diet with supplemental nuts had significant improvements in memory, while the group adding extra virgin olive oil experienced significantly better cognitive function.”

    That is really good to know.  I eat olive oil every day with my hummus.  wonder if hummus counts as a nut.  no matter, I just put mixed nuts on the groc list.  thanks for the link mate.

    Ketosis can be dangerous. The problem is that it raises your body’s acidity and your body needs to counter it. This is OK for a while until your body’s reserves fail. Then you cook from the inside out like beef tar tar. You can end up brain damaged or dead.

    Agreed – just go for Ketosis a couple of weeks at a time not long term.

    Keep daily carbs low 100g ish and only from vegetable sources if you can (get rid of grains, rice, pasta etc). Go easy on the fruit. Keep protein high and fat moderately high.

    Cardio – don’t run for miles, try a day or two each week of sprints. Hard as you can 6 to 10 sprints full effort. Rest and repeat if you can. I’ve thrown up afterwards on occasions so try and do it in the mornings before eating.

    Weights – heavy. Squats, deadlifts, chest press, shoulder press, pull ups etc. Twice a week lifting is fine but go heavy to shock your system.

    As you get older and everything slows down, testosterone drops, it’s more important to look at the quantity and source of carbs you eat and to do the heavy big movements to give your testosterone a boost.

    I ate all sorts of crap in my 20’s and just can’t do that now. Meat, plants and fats in your 30’s and up.

    I am looking to get back into this, but when I succeeded before, I had this as some rules:

    * If it is white, it is not right (outside of maybe califlour): Milk, yogurt, flour, sugar, etc… are all white, and have sugars or low complex carbs to them.

    * If it is sweet, don’t eat. Yes, you avoid fruits when trying to lose weight.

    * Don’t eat anything that can go in a cake (ok, maybe Zuccini). Again, see the white is not right.  Maybe some nuts, but you get the idea.

    * Drink enough water.

    * Don’t eat at fast food places.

    The kicker is coming off this.  I dropped 4 pounds a week doing low carb and a daily walk. This was back when. I need to get back to that.

    @richardhutnik; You are doing what I do. It works for me. It worked for friends who sent me to it.

    I have eaten in fast food joints when necessity demanded — I avoid them whenever possible. If I get stuck with a burger, then I discard the bun and opt for a salad in place of fries or do without. I’ll get unsweetened ice tea in place of soda drinks. In more upscale places, I order things like a chef’s salad or an omelette.

    Everything in this article agrees with Dr Berg’s video. Get past the lurid writing — the article is made up of good science.

    Nice place.  Chain off that acidity bit:  I drink a little concoction (almost) every morning of warm water (could be slightly hot) with a little baking soda and lemon juice.  Sounds crazy but the combo fizzes up first, but ends up working as a detoxifying and alkalizing agent until it’s time to actually eat later since this is done on an empty stomach (or should be)…

    (not much water needed, good lemons recommended, juice 1 and add about a tsp. or 2 of baking soda)

    So just for me to understand: eating less calories, sugar and saturated fat isnt enough? And driving about 42 KM with a bicycle (in about 2 Hours and 40 Minutes) wont really help losing fat? I was focusing more on that since my progress with weight lifting wasnt that great and I still have 21 % body fat. I was under the impression, that less calories and more cardio will help more than weight lifting.

    @meh,
    I’ve done a lot of research on this. I agree with Dr. Berg (the above video). I also agree with a man named Banting who wrote a booklet in the 1860s (it’s a free PDF, and there are lots of sites devoted to Banting), and a lot of diet scientists in between.

    What I agree with is: Sugar and starch cause your body to gain fat. Your liver turns them into fat before you can stand up from the dinner table (no kidding). This is going to happen, no matter how many calories you burn. Gain fat in one hour and spend twenty-four hours exercising it back off again. Starch and sugar is what they feed livestock to fatten it up. Any mammal will get fat eating corn alone.

    Fats, proteins, and complex carbohydrates do not get turned into fat necessarily. They get used for keeping you alive and healthy, unless you consume more of them in calories than you are burning through exercise and just living.

    Saturated fats, as in butter, cheese, and beef and other meats, do not matter. Here is an exception, trans-fats (as in high temperature frying), and hydrogenated fats (why your peanut butter doesn’t need stirring) are molecules your liver doesn’t know what to do with. The liver sends them to your fat cells just to get rid of them from the bloodstream.

    Get sugar, starch, hydrogenated and trans-fats out of your life and watch the pounds melt off.

    Fun fact: A can of Coke or Pepsi has 8-9 teaspoons of sugar in it. Figure 1 can = 1 oz. of fat around your waistline.

    Edit: Complex carbohydrates are what is in non-starchy vegetables that makes them good for you along with the vitamins, and minerals. I happen to like potato skins; it’s the white stuff in the middle I don’t eat.

    Another fun fact: “Bantning” – the Swedish word for “dieting” – comes from the name of William Banting.

    I don’t think it matters. Cardio and weight lifting both burn calories. Why not do both and get strength and endurance?

    Huh. Thats a new one to me. I thought saturated Fat is bad, since the body cannot use it anymore like non-saturated fat, just like the difference between fructose and sugar itself. So I usually try to keep my hands away from saturated fat and sugar.
    Oh and: what about fructose itself? sometimes I eat 4 or 5 apples a day. I never thought that would pose a problem, since the body needs energy to burn it into sugar. Am i mistaken about that one?

    This thread is really helpful, by the way. 🙂

    High Fructose Corn Syrup is only marginally worse 55% Fructose to 45% Sucrose as opposed to 50/50 in processed cane sugar.
    Sugar rots your whole system starting from where it enters, your teeth. Sugar doesn’t register as high as some other processed carbs on the glycemic index because your body simply doesn’t recognise the fructose half and it’s sent straight to your liver where it’s stored causing fatty liver deposits.
    Don’t even think of swapping to “diet” drinks to escape the sugar though. There’s quite a few artificial sweeteners but aspartame stands out because it causes insulin reactions the same as sugar, (google a few published papers on this) Aspartame continues the cycle of insulin induced fat storing and it’s in just about every drink labelled “Diet”
