Well, I expect this will be happening more and more. The engineering program at College was terrible. I went to a top notch engineering school too.

The deliberate dumbing down of America has taken its toll. That’s why older architecture is far superior to the crap they come up with now. Our engineers are of much less quality than the ones of the 19th Century.

Think about those old Roman Buildings that are still standing. They had some good engineers back then.

    REAL F~~~ING OLD:

    Loved this!

I know bugger all about building bridges, so big respect to all you guys on here who do, but I do know that the main thing is that they shouldn’t fall down. Isn’t this representative of our unsustainable way of life?

I’m getting more and more into prepping, and I really can see that our bulls~~~ unsustainable civilisation could come crashing down like that bridge. When it does, there will be guys like you lot who weather the storm, and come out the other end rebuilding civilisation in a sustainable way, with bridges that don’t fall down, food that doesn’t poison us, philosophies which don’t destroy us.

There aren't holes in your pockets. It's called marriage.

Some years ago a bridged collapsed in my country, killing 59.

    Bridge accident

As I was watching the news I was thinking: I bet the only way to cross that river now is an old Roman bridge.
And as on queue, the reporter complained how people had to use the old Roman bridge…

Kinda ironic how often we hear in politics “Our infrastructure is crumbling, we need to invest in it!” Well…guess I’ll stick with the old “crumbling” stuff.

If they start digging into this, its going to be interesting to see how many people blessed off on this project, and who they were. Something tells me its going to be a bunch of affirmative action hires. I mean…its a f~~~ing foot bridge…its not exactly like this is new, cutting edge stuff…longer, higher, stronger bridges have been being built for thousands of years.

All the media outlets I’ve seen have called this a “cable stay bridge”. It sure doesn’t look like one to me. Where are the cables?

It looks to me like a basic beam bridge made of some fancy oversized concrete web beam with f~~~ed up artistic webbing. Not sure who thought that was a good idea. It might be a box girder with extra crap on top, though; I can’t say for sure without getting a better look at the ends.

All that being said, it definitely looks incomplete. Maybe it was supposed to be a cable stay bridge, but they hadn’t got the pier or cables in yet. Either way, who’s brilliant idea was it to allow traffic under an incomplete bridge?

Have you guys seen the movie Idiocracy ? I swear that movie is a look into the future of society being ruined by idiots. I think there might even be a scene in the beginning where a bridge collapses or something disastrous like that.

I think about that film all of the time.

The irony is, that film isn’t even that old: 10-15 years old max?

    Our society is already there.

Read about this on Reddit earlier.

    Quote from OP of Reddit:

Key quote from the female engineer/project executive, Leonor Flores (speaking about teaching her daughter that women can go into STEM):

It’s very important for me as a woman and an engineer to be able to promote that to my daughter, because I think women have a different perspective. We’re able to put in an artistic touch and we’re able to build, too.

Make no mistake this was a tragedy for all involved, and I’m sympathetic to those who lost their lives and their families.

Society keeps pushing this BS narrative that not only can women do what men do, but better; well then, don’t be surprised when people call you out on your BS.

Well, the core problem here that women understand better as “better looking”, not “more reliable”. And to explain them that certain standards must be met before aesthetics even become a factor… difficult. Very difficult. And when you call them on this bulls~~~, they can be like “so what if it fell? It was so beautiful while it lasted…”

    … female engineer/project executive, Leonor Flores …

    MGTOW knowledge in action:
1 – we KNEW there was a woman involved.
2 – we knew that because the identity of the guilty was being protected. If it was a man his name would be in the gutter.
3 – we can predict a pussy pass: nothing will happen to her.

Idiocracy is a great movie. The director said he was not expecting it to become a societal documentary in his life-time, and it did.

But it is still not accurate. We need a movie called:
    C~~~ocracy

I have been involved with a few bridges as a fabricator/welder, mostly railroad bridges.
I have my theory as to why that bridge failed, but I would like more info.
No matter the cause, those people should not have died, even in it’s unfinished state, there are methods available to support a span such as that, it’s basic s~~~ for any competent bridge engineer.

Yes. There are. And they removed those methods to allow traffic to pass under. For reasons.

Regardless of the cause of the bridge failure, whoever made the decision to permit traffic under it is responsible for the deaths. That’s what turned it from a f~~~up to a tragedy. Otherwise this would just have been another youtube video.

    $14 million dollars!

I could have done it for under $300 k with some pressure treated lumber and used ski-lift cable! And it would look cool as f~~~!

From those 14mi, obviously 4 million were spent on starbucks.

I won’t be p~~~ed off if that money didn’t come from hard working men’s pockets. But int the end of the day, the ones that end up paying for this bulls~~~, are us. We pay a high price, for a s~~~ty job, done by s~~~ty professionals just for the sake of “equality”.

That thing was an eye sore. The engineering firm could not be reached for comment. I am willing to bet a gender diversity quota advanced someone unqualified.

14 million dollars for that piece of s~~~?!! I hope the lawsuits that result from this makes that figure pale in comparison. Unbelievable.

A friend of mine reported that, allegedly the female engineer had send an SMS to her boss warning that a large crack had appear, thus the bridge was unsafe.

Let me translate it: a female has screw up, which man are we blaming?
