When I was a kid, I drank a good amount of soda. When I was married and we visited her parents, we’d all drink diet Ginger Ale or Diet Snapple. I was never that fond of soda pop, I do like the occasional Diet Snapple. Since water is a bit boring, I’ve been filling up a pitcher of purified water (Brita filtered) and adding decaf green and black tea backs with a decaf peppermint tea bag. Zero calories. Quenches the thirst, tastes good, no sugar or any additives and healthy. Pretty cheap too. Each tea bag is about $0.06.

Soda pop is a huge cause to diabetes and obesity. There are simple things we can do to ensure we do not have to go that route. This is something simple, tasty and cheap to do.

    Just throwing it out there.

During high school I drank copious amounts of Coke.

The year I went to university I read how bad it was for you and I stopped soda all together.

I’ll have a spirit and mixer but haven’t touched soda on its own for almost 10 years.

Slightly off topic, but as a 27y/o Englishman, I’ve never had a cup of tea. Shocking? šŸ˜€

Try it. You’ll love it. If you like green and black tea.

Rarely drink pop because it’s got a ton of sugar and that ain’t good calorie or diabetes-prevention wise.

Rarely and it’s usually sugar free. Not that the sugar substitute is any better, but at least it doesn’t spike my insulin.

I’ve been a huge soda drinker for years. I was raised on Pepsi and I still drink it, but now in diet form. I stopped sugared soda a couple of years back and in 12 months lost 20 pounds, but I’ve added them back on.

I am clearly addicted to caffeine and use it to manage my alertness and day. I drink about 7-9 cans of diet soda a day.

I know it is horrible for me, with the chemicals and s~~~, but something has to kill me.

Fizzy drinks rot your teeth and your stomach, you can use Coca Cola to clean rust off a chrome bumper.

The diet version are full of dangerous hsit such as aspartame.

I put soda, cigarette, candy, and liquor stores out of business!

Divorce, marriage, and legal systems too!

I guess I’m bad for business.

I have 3-5 diet cokes a week (normally…I’ve been very bad the last 2 stressful weeks trying to get some serious work done), but I also drink on average a gallon of water a day and 3-5 cups of coffee so black it’s a hate crime to be more descriptive.

Like others, I grew up on the stuff. I drank more soda than water. There was a period of time where I didn’t drink it all. These days, I may have a can about every other day. Usually something without caffeine.

Mentally, I tell myself that a can of soda is less good for you than a can of beer. So, unless I just don’t want alcohol for whatever reason, I choice to have a beer (or a few) instead. Really, anything other than water should be mentally thought of as a treat, an exception to your regular diet.

As an aside, if you ever worked in a place restaurant or place where soda is sold (not by can), then you are a little more familiar with what’s in soda. It’s a thick nasty syrup mixed with carbonated water. The syrup is just sugar and crap. The carbonated water is just going to eat away at your stomach.

Also, I’m not a big fan of artificial sweeteners, particularly the stuff that’s been around for a while. Besides the fact that it’s still chemicals putting you put in your body, it has a bad taste to me. The mind is convinced that you can have more of it since it’s diet, so you end up not losing any weight anyways.

    Ok. Then do it.

Loved it as a kid, but as I grew older, I lost interest. When in a restaurant if I don’t order an alcoholic drink, I’ll just have water. The only time I drink soda pop is the rare occasion I visit this old burger joint for nostalgic reasons.

For the ones with concerns about a caffeine withdrawal, I understand, as I need caffeine as well. You can slowly whittle down by doing a 50/50 split with half caf, have no caf green or black tea bags. Trust when I say, it doesn’t need to be sweetened.

For coffee, I will admit, I use Splenda. I tried Stevia and Monk Fruit, but the after taste ruins the flavor of the Java.

I go through soda 12 pack Monday – Thursday; Coors Light Friday – Sunday.

I don’t care what the health factors are in soda. I’m 35 and I just got my blood test results in today, and all my numbers check out in the healthy range and no concern for diabetes. So I’m all good.
