Dinner date with any celebrity – who would it be?

Suppose you could win a casual dinner date and choose any celebrity? It would take place in a private setting at the restaurant of their choice. You would be provided with first class airfare, a chauffeur, all additional meals and luxury hotel accommodations including spa treatment during your stay.

The one time restaurant rendezvous would last as long as you both decide. Who would you want to get to know on a first name basis?

I think I’d like to have dinner with Claudia Christian. It would be a blast to meet Commander Susan Ivanova. Never been able to attend a convention so it would be fun to chat with someone who has starred in a favorite series Babylon 5. I really enjoy those behind-the-scenes books and stories.

Buzz Aldrin.  Who wouldn’t want to sit down and chat with one of the two men who first walked on the moon, particularly when one got to see it live on television?  If Dr. Aldrin wasn’t available, any of the early astronauts or, for that matter, cosmonauts still living would be worth spending an hour or two with.  Major General Alexei Leonov–the first man to “walk” in space and the commander of the Soviet half of the Apollo-Soyuz mission–would be one I’d gladly meet, as well as Capt. John Young (regarded as the dean of American astronauts), Dr. Harrison Schmitt (the first scientist on the moon), or Col. Dave Scott (another experienced astronaut–Apollo 9 Command Module pilot and Apollo 15 commander).

Col. Eileen Collins would be an interesting dinner guest–USAF officer, astronaut, and space shuttle pilot.  Another would be Dr. Sandy Magnus, another former astronaut but still active in aerospace as the AIAA’s Executive Director.

Another would be Dr. Joe Taylor K1JT, Nobel Prize winner and a well-known radio amateur.  There would be lots to talk about with him.

I actually second that. So many things to be learned from a very wise man. I’m sure I am far from the only one here who would agree that his responses are not just whitty but also very informative and insightful on many many occasions

Well s~~~, you guys I’m humbled. OK but I’m buying! Beers and shots for everyone. (not brown-nosing either)

I saw the topic and was thinking if this were 1984-1988, I would want to meet Michael Jackson. I saw him live 4 times and he was just magic on stage. During Billie Jean , I swear I didn’t even blink once. I remember that back then. Just riveting. But it’s really a close call between him and Harrison Ford. When I was a kid, he was the ultimate hero. My best friend actually met him and sent me a photo to irritate the s~~~ out of me. I was so p~~~ed.

I did wait 3 hours to meet Christopher Lloyd at a 25th Anniversary of Back to The Future. That was extremely cool and I have a photo of that. And Lea Thompson. I walked up to her with my mobile phone, did a Crispin Glover imitation (from the movie) and said “Lorraine… you ….. are my density”. She threw her head back laughing and said she never heard that approach before. Then, there was the chick who played Marty McFly’s love interest “Jennifer” in the first movie. I forget her name. Lets just say the Wall™ was not good to her. BUT! I do have a “save the clock tower” flyer and she wrote “I love you 555-XXXX” (the phone number from the movie) on it.

As far as Hollywood hotties go, it would have to be Famke Janssen – circa “GoldenEye” (007) . Oh yeah.

We have a very similar cultural background and I passed her on a mountain hike once – walking withe her boyfriend. He’s a stringy f~~~er. In a scrap, I could take him. I would have NEVER placed this guy as her type. Shocked how tall she was. I strongly prefer petite women under 5’7″. Spoke to her in German to break the ice, quick chat about nothing really. She was very nice, but the dude looked like he wanted to kill me. If it were Julia Roberts, I wouldn’t have bothered but she is extremely easy on the eyes.

That’s the extent of my star gazing I would say.

@ QWV…I’m with you…I’d love to meet Buzz Aldrin or the late Neil Armstrong whose humility was incredible…also John Young , Gene Cernan, Charlie Duke or any of those other people you mentioned. As for any Hollyweird celebutards, I’d rather dine alone. It would also be fun to go to a tavern with the bunch from here.

Oh! forgot one more.. Film score composer John Williams. Sometimes he is in town conducting his own movie music. When he does, I make a point of going.

Off the top of my head? Probably Bill Murray. You KNOW you’re going to have a good time if Bill Murray’s there.

Eminem is another one. I’m admittedly not the biggest follower of his music, but some of his ideas are fascinating to me. As KeyMaster said, Harrison Ford would be cool as well. I got more, but my brain is crashing and I can’t think of anything.

I listen to the archived recordings of The Space Show:

A number of astronauts, including many who flew during Gemini and Apollo, have been guests.  They’ve had some interesting stories to tell, but I guess it’ll be the closest I’ll get to meeting them.

The Bungie team who created Halo – my favourite franchise and I have had endless hours playing through the games (and still do) so they have given me countless hours of entertainment. Not the same since they left

@QWV…what a great series…these guys are so cool about what they are doing…I’d almost climb in a capsule with John Young …and I hate airplanes! Oh yes, my condolences on the NDP win in Alberta…they’ll put Alberta in the poor house just like Ontario, the Maritimes, and Quebec. These bastards won’t be happy until we are all up to our eyeb~~~~ in debt…if Trudeau becomes Prime Mangina, I’ll be moving further into the woods!

If you liked that, look for the Canadian-made series Rocket Science which was on Discovery Canada several years ago.  That’s one I’d like to add to my collection.  As well, you may like the HBO mini-series From The Earth To The Moon.  Tom Hanks decided to make it after he finished Apollo 13.

As for the NDP, I was in B. C. when it booted out the Socreds under W. A. C. Bennett in 1972.  That province was never the same since.

@QWV…I’ve seen the Tom Hanks series but I will check out Rocket Science…I love that kind of stuff!           My brother was living in Alberta when Ralph Klein was premier…I guess those were the “boom” years…it will be sad to watch Alberta go the way of Ontario. As for me, I live in the Maritimes so I don’t know how much more they can mess it up  than it already is.

I would like to go out on a dinner date with Heidi Lamarr if she was still alive or with Esther Vilar if she was still young.
