In the scriptures he is quoted as saying in regard to celibacy, “let he who can eat this, eat it”. So he probably did. Though he would have practised periods of abstinence as an exercise in self discipline which is essential to the spiritual path. If you cant control yourself you can’t control your mind, you cant open your mind to altered states. More importantly you can’t close it to those altered states of and return to normal. Which can be quite a problem among earnest young seekers.
