So let me get this straight… The US will let you keep US citizenship, but you have to leave the country? How it that citizenship, again?

You don’t have to leave the country. You can live in either country.
I only use it in when I’m in DIRE need, and cant fix my ailment myself. My issue is with the desk jockies and talking heads, not the front line medical staff.
There was a time in my life when I gave a fuck. Now you have to pay ME for it
I hate to break this to you, but except for Israel, the US doesn’t allow any new applicants for dual citizenship.
Ireland does too.
Anonymous26Oneforfreedom…. I know your pain brother.
I have reoccurring hereditary kidney stones (nearly everyone on my maternal side of the family has had them). Since the age of 19 I’ve been popping a large one out almost every three to five years, but frequently I was passing crystals.
The only complaint I can make about Canadian health care system is as others have mentioned…. the wait time in ER waiting room. The last big renal colic attack I had was back in 2008, it was so fn painful, I couldn’t sit still in the waiting room, when I asked if there was a gurney to lie on I was told to wait. It wasn’t until two hours later once I collapsed onto the floor that they got me onto a gurney.
When I got my kidneys x-rayed they discovered that I had a stone that was 8mm in diameter (0.315 inches… almost 3/8th”)! Fortunately my regular physician was working in the hospital that day (one day a week he would work in emerg). Between the head emergency doctor and my physician they quickly got me an appointment to a specialist for a lithotripsy treatment.
3 weeks later…..
The treatment broke the stone into three pieces after getting ultrasonically hit over 25k times. Good thing I always drink 3 to 4 liters of water a day…. when I was about to pass this garbage my urine was black and I knew I would be passing it soon, so I tanked up on water and beer.
Brother here’s some advice more about kidney stones, the next time (I dearly hope for your sake there isn’t), but if you can next time try to p~~~ through a paint thinner screen and catch it. Put it in a sealed sterile container and get it analysed at a lab. Figure out what kind of stone it is and you can start modifying your diet to avoid future stones.
In my case there is something genetic in the family where our kidneys hoard calcium and want to ball it up to form a stone.
It was only by this year that I discovered for myself that cheese was/is a huge factor in my stones.

Thank you for your response! If I could +1 it a million times, I would.
First of all, I’m so sorry that you’ve experienced this pain also. It is HORRIBLE. And that sucks how you had to keep waiting in the ER in severe distress. I would be freaking out at that point. I am surprised that you got stones even with 3-4L of water. Looks like there really is no foolproof way to prevent them.
What’s the difference between kidney stones and crystals? Can you elaborate?
Also, 8mm? JESUS. I know that your ureters are typically 4mm in diameter….I can only imagine how painful the 8mm must have been….and then even after you passed it, the scar tissue remained inflamed.
I also hope I never experience this again, but based on previous studies, once you have one kidney stone attack, you have a 50% chance for another one within five years. So I am going to prepare for that, and if it doesn’t occur, it’ll be a happy moment. I tried straining my urine but I didn’t catch it at all…I went to the ER and peed into a cup there, and the nurse accidentally messed up and I had to go again. Perhaps the stone was in the original sample and thus was lost?
Anonymous26The difference in kidney stones and crystals are there size…. now I don’t have a chart unfortunately to be able to explain this in great detail or depth. Crystals are when the active molecules of what makes up a stone’s components are beginning to form into a stone.
It doesn’t have that “flail morning star” shape or look to it yet but it’s on it’s way there, the kidney sometime manages to eject it. Some people pass these all the time and are unaware to it. Me I feel them going through my ureter (between kidney and bladder). Once any stone is in my bladder, no problem…. I drink, I pass stone, I fall down, I get up and drink some more…..lol. [Beer is great remedy for kidney stones, even had a doctor suggest it to me once]
Brother I would talk to your parents and try to find out a family history too, as this may help you identify what if anything in your diet is causing these stones.
As I mentioned already, for me they are calcium based but there is something biologically in my system that is also using another chemical or nutrient out of my diet that is acting like a binder for the calcium.
I would also like to mention and suggest…. I had my doctor prescribe me a medication that would help me urinate called “Flowmax”. It’s an old man medication suffering with an unhealthy prostate…. DON’T take it, it will mess with your erectile functions, and in my case never helped with pain management.
As for pain management…. I along with doctor had decided that I wanted to stay away from the highly addictive oral pain killer medication. Instead the only other alternative is a suppository medication called Dilfonac.
Ok yeah it sucks that when ever I have kidney stone related pain I need to resort to sticking something up my butt, HOWEVER… my whole torso becomes numb to pain and I am not mentally impaired,
Knock on wood… I haven’t had a big stone since that last one in 08.
Good luck
I’m a doctor but don’t know much about the difference between Canada and the U.S. but I’ve been to Thailand and the Philippines and when rich people get sick or break a bone in those countries the rich go to the US for their treatment. It was in the news papers.
The ex-head of the Supreme Court in the Philippines went to California when he broke his ankle.
#icethemout; Remember Thomas Ball. He died for your children.
I know a prevention for kidney stones, for the some of the causes anyways. Buy some fresh lemons and juice them. Just buy a cheap juicer and a large glass of water and add a teaspoon or more. Lemons are high in PH. Also regular consume olive oil make sure it’s the real deal because a lot of olive oil is fake. Fresh lemon juice is also great to prevents flus and cold due to the vitamin C.
Ideal you should try this first thing when you wake up and wait at least 1 hour before eating.
Diet changes are important, especially lowering salt consumption and eating less meat.http://www.webmd.com/kidney-stones/news/20060524/lemonade-helps-kidney-stones

I think this could explain my kidney stone attack. I’ve lost 24 pounds over the last 10 weeks as part of an effort to become more fit.
This often involved eating peanuts between my meals to stave off hunger between meals.
Although I did change to low-sodium peanuts…but still this could be a cause.
This is the way the world works. Sooner or later the freeloaders will always overburden the net payers, hence; the socialist health cares of the world (i.e. most non-US countries) get insane health care waiting lines. I had a former colleague who busted his knee pretty badly, to the degree that he could not work (he’s an excavator machinist). He went to an examination and got told he’d have to wait 10-12 months for a surgery in the public health care line, he then got a price on the same surgery in the private sector; 40 000 NOK (€4000/$4300). He payed and was back at work just two weeks later.

I agree. That is horrible. From your use of the currency NOK, I believe this is in Norway? If so, I am shocked since I’ve always heard great things about Norwegian healthcare.
At the same time though, American healthcare is NOT 100% capitalist at all. Remember- we have VA, Medicare, and even the military. All are paid for by taxpayers, and they have been going relatively well. Sure you have the occasional scandal. But now take a look at emergences.
If your appendix bursts tomorrow….AND you have insurance, you could expect to pay $8-10,000 since you’ll most likely be in the private sector.
Norway/Iceland/Australia/Britain/Canada: You pay nothing.

Yes, it is Norway. And yes, if my appendix burst I will probably only pay around $20 or so, but that is a “good” disease. Get cancer and you’re all dependant on current health care lines. Sometimes you might get lucky and get a spot in a few days or a couple of weeks, but if you’re unlucky you might have to wait a year or so… Best part is that occasionally our govt buy hospital beds from Sweden, so that way we expand our resources, but then a swede will wait an extra period of time.

Why are there long waits for cancer? Isn’t that an emergency condition?

Money, plain and simple; a cancer patient has expensive surgery with highly qualified surgeons, expensive medicine, expensive X-rays, pretty much expensive everything. And a high risk of follow-ups; cancer patients are likely to fall ill again. Costing even more money…

So what do cancer patients in Norway do? Surely they don’t wait for the cancer to spread and die right?
Do they go to a cheaper country with high quality healthcare, like Thailand?

Actually your guess is as good as mine; I only know a few cancer patients and all of them were lucky. One of them being my ex with a severe brain tumor. She had a quite unusual one so renowned physicians were standing in line to do the surgery (the one who did it came up here from Switzerland). But my guess would be that the ones in line would wait yes. Most people here don’t have the money to go abroad, and getting a knee surgery or a vasectomy in a private clinic is not the same as cancer treatment, even Thailand I reckon would be expensive for the average citizen. I for one could only afford the plane ticket if it happened to me tomorrow…

You should try changing to almonds. Peanuts contains antitoxins. https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002429.htm
You try the lemon juice thing every morning not that bottled s~~~ but real lemon juice.

Hmm nuts aren’t good for kidney stones. I would limit them.
Limit your intake of oxalate-rich foods such as chocolate, nuts, spinach, beets, and tea. This may be suggested if you have had recurrent kidney stones.

Foods high in oxalate include:
Beans.
Beer.
Beets.
Berries.
Chocolate.
Coffee.
Cranberries.
Dark green vegetables, such as spinach.
Nuts.
Oranges.
Rhubarb.
Soda (cola).
Soy beans.
Soy milk.
Spinach.
Sweet potatoes.
Tea (black).
Tofu.
Wheat bran.http://www.webmd.com/kidney-stones/tc/foods-high-in-oxylate-topic-overview
