IMO, Solo bombed because of it inherited the bad PR from Last Jedi and because it had a poor released date. If they had waited to release at Christmas there would have time to recover from LJ and not been as many movies drawing customer attention.

No one knew who the Guardians of the Galaxy were either. People aren’t watching because they know the characters so much as they know the movies are going to be good. I agree they have more of a challenge for a movie soley about a female superhero, but it won’t be because no one knows them.

Wonder Woman did well not so much because it was household name but because it was done rather well, particularly for the DC movies. Overall, I think the film seem to understand that you can use gender or race to pull in additional viewers, but you can’t overdue it to the point where you turn away your core audience of comicbook and action movie fans.

My last time in a theater was Age of Ultron. I’ll pay Redbox prices (or less) for everything from then on.

Star Wars ended with Return of the Jedi for me, and the crapfest of Ultron destroyed my Marvel hopes.

Meh. In the future I won’t even have a TV, why worry about the big screen?

I agree. But, given the Box Office take of Deadpool, an R Rated dark action-comedy which made over $600 million, those at LF cannot claim it was a slow Box Office month.

Eh, there are a lot of factors at play here. The reaction to an LGBTQ character is going to depend on how in your face and relevant to the story it is as well as the current political climate when it comes out. If they do it the way they did Black Panther…where activists saw it as activist film and action fans saw it as an action film…then they should manage it ok.

To give an example, Fox made one of the characters in Deadpool 2 gay, even showing the girlfriend with her much of the time. Yet no one really cared. It wasn’t relevant to the story and they didn’t push it in your face too much.

Deadpool takes the p~~~ out of those characters anyway

but I do agree how it isn’t much of a problem if it isn’t pushed in your face but SJWs WANT it pushed in people’s faces and that destroys franchises

It is funny that the more they try this crap the fewer and fewer people go to the movies. Which then they increase the prices making it even fewer people. Waiting for that death spiral to crash and burn.
