I escaped them somehow.

I’m so tired of feeling like what I suffered through at the hands of my borderline mother is inconsequential when compared to what people with BPD go through.
No one would tell a victim of rape, sexual or physical abuse that they should learn to empathize and understand their abuser… or that their abuser just “can’t help it” and are “people too”. So why should parents who inflict severe emotional/psychological abuse get a free pass?

I really don’t understand it. I mean, yeah BPD is a mental illness. But the “they just can’t help themselves” defense doesn’t wash, IMO. My BPD mom managed to control her RAGES so that they only happened in front of me and/or family members who already knew how crazy she was and just enabled it. They can help themselves; otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to pick and choose what behavior they show to the world and what behavior they keep behind closed doors.

THIS exactly! NO ONE saw my mother’s rages unless she wanted them to see them… which means no one saw them but ME (*with a few rare exceptions)! She had 100% control over when she’d blow up, which means she had 100% control over her rage – until she didn’t WANT to control it any more!

Yeah. My mom never lost it at work (she was a third grade teacher, and would have been fired). She never lost it at a store, or the supermarket, or in public. Nope. She only lost it at home, when it was just me, her, and her own uBPD mother (who always joined in with the mental and emotional abuse – being the SG just sucks).
They totally can control it. It’s just another way they manipulate people!

Spot on: My mother, middle sister and grandmother.
I got 3 times the radiation dose.
My oldest sister (16 years older than me and hardly ever mentioned here) is the only half-way sane person and had to move out in 1971, when I was 4. She truly was a victim, since they treated and mistreated her like a son. She is now a feminist hater and takes my political side.

Avoid, avoid, avoid basically and spot red flags early.
The craziness is usually fairly detectable early on. You just fail to trust gut instinct.
I have an ex like this – total slut yet will try to ruin it for me with any other women if she sees me with a new one (even talking to one). People generally think she is “nice” (because she’s a covert Narc). She can self destruct though publicly so I’m refusing to engage. They HATE being ignored. They are dangerous and to be avoided as friends even. I met another one who was super clingy and needy after hardly any time spent together and started playing mind games after I told her I was too busy to talk one day but would be in touch. She then gave me the silent treatment and repeated my words back verbatim in text. I immediately blocked her. I’d f~~~ed this woman ONCE and she was already love bombing and constantly texting etc. She was definitely BPD as narcissists play it cooler. F~~~ing avoid these toxic hitches and your life will be much happier fellow brothers.

I had my 30th Birthday and my family tried to set me up with a Borderline
I had the worst 30th birthday, my family tried to engineer it for me with a surprise. It did not go well for them because I left and spent it alone.
If you’re turning 30, my advice is to tell everyone in advance to stay the hell away from you. In fact, on that day, just disappear all together (tell them in advance you will not be reachable so they don’t file a missing person thing). Just get a hotel and turn off your phone.
