watched the original again over the weekend and really enjoyed it for the first time. Enjoying the sequel allowed me to appreciate the original more

and considering the Alien and Blade Runner universes are linked, I thought I would watch Aliens (I am sure in BR 2049 you see an Earth warship parked up)

Ripley is how you do a proper female lead unlike that franchise killer Rey from Nu Star Wars. Only criticism is that Apone dies too early – love that guy and wish he had been around a bit more. Amazing film though

Bladerunner 2049 is my favorite movie of all time, period.

The audio and visual aspects are impeccable. The tones and colors! And all of it would be wasted on a terrible script and cast — good thing they wrote a script that actually has a character arc. Good thing the cast is also great.

What moved me is that our lead protagonist ‘K’ is questioning himself, his origins the whole time. This is what stories are supposed to be like. K, the Bladerunner is a MGHOW by my definition, replicant or not.

    (SPOILERS)

And he has to choose his allegiance because all factions want his aide.

The LA Police just wanted him to do his job, be a Bladerunner and retire some old replicants. He goes his own way by not killing ‘bubble-chick’ like he was ordered to do. He figures it out but disregards Madams orders.

The Replicant Rebellion asks him to kill Deckard. He goes his own way and helps Deckard! He turns his back on the very Rebellion that he, by all rights, should join since he is a Replicant.

Neander Wallace wants him to divulge where the child is hiding so that Wallace can create Replicants who can breed. He goes his own way and says forget it!

This story is about a man helping another man, regardless of what defines a human, regardless of the future of the human race, regardless of what he is ordered to do! He only helps Deckard!

I FREAKING LOVE THIS STORY. I love this movie more than Prometheus and Covenant which says a lot because I’ve been obsessed with that series and the originals for years.

Denis Villenueve blessed us with a rare and precious film. Real art like this is so under appreciated.

    Syvia Hoeks

I’m glad Ive never seen Sylvia Hoeks (pictured on right) in anything but this film because I never want to know her as anything but this character. Absolutely riveting performance, incredibly hot. You might be gay if this woman doesn’t get your heart pumping.

Robin Wright performs solidly as well the whole film. She played Jenny in Forest Gump lol. Anyway, this scene especially is awesome.

I love this film because, even the female performances will GET TO YOU. Can’t say enough positive things about Bladerunner 2049. I went to the theatre twice to see it. I bought it twice on DVD, one to save in a keep sake drawer unopened. Yes, its that special to me.

While I do agree she is hot. Her character is a little too aggressive and deceptive for my liking.

I think Joi (Ana de Armas) might be the most ridiculously sexy thing ever. I would buy Joi right now if it were available.

    Ana de Armas

    SPOILERS!

I also really love the ending where K is left alone and sees an advertisement for Joi. Her little phrases she says lets K know how artificial she was and you can sense a feeling of loss on K’s part. It’s a weird mix of emotions there that are dark and interesting to explore.

    Joi

Looking at my previous “pretty damn good” rating, I think I undersold this movie. I really loved it.

TheSpice- I can’t fault you for preferring Joi more. Seems like a more reasonable choice and of course, her being a hologram is convenient. I also would buy one this instant if Joi existed, most guys would.

    Spoilers

My attraction to Luv instead is that, despite her lethal nature, she is seeking validation and love from a man; seeking to be submissive to a master. You can see that she is torn emotionally many times, despite her cold actions. She is literally crying when she has to murder Madam. And she kisses K when it seems she has the upper hand and has won, leaving him to die of his wound rather than off him then and there. She also lets him live in Vegas, preferring only to terminate Joi, his love, in the ultimate act of jealousy. She is so in love with him. This is given away real early in the film when they talk about Rachel provoking Deckard because she likes him. And then Luv provokes K with a personal question and he cold shoulders her. LOL

Luv has all the qualities of a woman that I wish I could experience. She actually does love K; which is more artificial than Joi in today’s world.

    Luv Air Strike

Air Strike Manicure, Classy Lady LOL

    Rachel from Original Bladerunner

The advertisement of Joi, with K on the bridge

That scene is a brilliant and clear shifting into the story’s rising climax and conclusion. What an absolute perfect character dilemma and resolution that changes pace right there! We see who he is, the mysteries he has solved, the sore implications and tragedies he is facing personally and we see him all at once, reckon with it and move on.

What I imagine K must be thinking during that scene is that, ‘Joi is dead, she was fake but I understood that love, it was real, I understand that feeling and I now understand Deckard, I’m going to help Deckard so to hell with everyone else.

I think he decides love, that a man feels, in its most general sense, is important enough to die for. In this case, it was the love of a daughter but he just recognizes it as love. That is a blue pill message but I can stomach it because he is ultimately helping another man and his only love was a Hologram so I’m good with that.

    K's Discovery

This movie is hardcore story telling. Anyone bashing this movie doesn’t understand story telling or art, period. If the genre is not for you, okay fine, but the execution of this film is roundly professional. I live for this specific genre and the way that this specific film was made.

This same director made Enemy, also a brilliant film.

    Jake Gyllenhaal

    Denis Villenueve

Watch out for Denis Villeneuve who is likely to direct a few more epic films before they jade him out of inspiration.

I bet Denis Villenueve absolutely hates that poster behind him. You choose one color and run with it, not try to create a rainbow Star Wars look-alike poster. God damn marketing artists are all scum….they complied like little slaves and follow all the rules in order to get that degree and training and once they get the job that matters, they c~~~ it all up. Seen this so many times where REAL talent is left behind in the High Schools.

Not just in Art but in all fields, imagine the scripts we could have today but they gloss over good writers and plaster PC garbage all over America’s psyche. God Super hero movie bulls~~~. FU$$king Ben Affleck as Batman, god damn Christ! What a complete irreverence to Christian Bale and Christoher Nolan who just finished making Batman tolerable again, and then Hollywood barges in and makes Batman Forever all over again starring Ben Affleck.

Yes, I’m a bitter starving artist who is past his prime that never made anything remarkable in between drinking binges and jail time. LOL

Yeah, that was a surprising reaction to me. It was… refreshing. He is his own man/replicant. I noticed it too how she mentioned the provocation and then pretty much provoked K with personal questions. She so desperately wanted him to ask her questions. Brilliant acting.

You could be a movie critic, man. You nailed this scene, I think. To me it was such an intense moment in the film.

I saw that scene where he sees the advert is where he takes the red pill and realises it was all bulls~~~. Just like women in real life – all fake

Yes, that scene is multi-dimensional in message. He tells us more with that beaten look on his face than any dialogue could.

And right when it cuts, you know the falling action is coming because the weird music grinds up. Like some sort of crazy grunge music. Love it

Here’s the old thread! BLADERUNNER 2049 is the best movie ever.
I never realized you can simply use the Search Forum search box on the right side of the screen.
I used to have to manually go searching for stuff and I’d give up after about 3 hours. LOL

I enjoyed the book(s), The first Blade Runner move, and this movie
This is a definitely a worthy continuation for the story line.

Yes I have seen it (script was written in 1983). More along Enders Game, The Dorsai series, and “Halo” et al.
Same basic concept as the ancient Spartans.

Can wait for DUNE. Nice reminder from an old thread.

Since this thread came out, I read the book Furture Noir, the making of BLaderunner. Granted, I only spent about 6 hours on reading it since it was borrowed from a local coffee shop who was suprisingly willing to let me borrow it…

Fascinating!!! They dont make movies like that anymore! Thats what separates the brilliance of Ridley Scott and these MIchael Bay losers who do everything on a s~~~ty computer CGI… They never had the cheats back then! They made it all by hand! Bunch of badasses they were.

Watch the Final Cut Bladerunner and realize this, that in every frame, everything you see is REAL. Its either MODEL that was built, or a painting, or some other old school method of creating a visual — FILMED with real film. NOTHING was made on a computer!

    FVCKING BAD ASSES
