Bimbo customer got me in trouble

I work in a liquor store. A couple of nights ago a girl came in to my store, picked out a bottle of liquor, and walked to the counter to pay. She looked familiar but I carded her anyway just to be safe. I don’t want to risk losing my job or even getting arrested. She tells me she doesn’t have it because blah blah blah. So I ask her what her date of birth was. She hesitates before she finally tells me. I just figure “f~~~ it” and I serve her anyway. Then she asks me “How old do I look?”. I ignore but can’t help grinning to myself. She asks again “How old do I look?”. Then I just smile at her and say “Sorry but I don’t play that game”. She gives me a dirty look and leaves.

The next day my boss bitches me out. He tells me that the girl came back to the store later when he was there and complained that I had a bad attitude and was being rude. And he yelled that I shouldn’t have ID’d her as she had been in the store before. I told him my side of the story and he eventually let it go after I explained to him that I carded her just to be safe and that I said “I don’t play that game” to her because guessing a woman’s age is a dangerous thing to do. He shrugged it off then but only after reaming me about the whole thing.

What was that c~~~’s problem? Why does it seem that the customers who usually start trouble are the female ones? Men do too, yes, but not as often as women. Why do they get offended and triggered over nothing? What the f~~~ did I do? Sorry for the rant but I needed to tell someone about it. Thanks for lending an ear.

Many c~~~s get some sort of sadistic pleasure for screwing with random strangers. Also, she probably got mad because you didn’t play her stupid little game. However, had you played it she would still find some way to say s~~~ to you. Typical female entitlement made her believe she deserved to have an exception in the rules made for her. Too bad your boss is a mangina. If I were your boss I would compliment you because you stuck to the rules and didn’t make an exception for her just because she has a vagina.

Local law enforcement here run underage stings, they send an “undercover” in to buy alcohol or cigarettes and use the “I don’t have my id with blah blah blah”.
If they are are able to buy alcohol/cigarettes, an officer returns with the undercover, and issues a citation/fine for selling to a minor.

One local gas station was cited 9 times, a different employee sold to the undercover minor each time.

So, long story short: “No id? no Sale!”

Honestly, if I could, I’d get out of that situation as soon as possible. Customer service jobs are just as bad as being in college now a days for men. If a woman customer had a problem with a male employee for example, like you did, you could get fired. Or, get into trouble because the c~~~ told the police you “verbally abused” her or some s~~~ like that.

well, she looked familiar and I was pretty sure I served her, but I wanted to make sure. You’re right though, I shouldn’t have served her. Looking back, I’m almost sure that she was in fact an underage customer who my boss probably served a number of times.

I don’t understand why your boss bitched you out. If you are selling alcohol, cigarettes, weapons or any gambling paraphernalia, it is your job to card them regardless of how old they look. XSDBS is right. Undercover stings are done all the time especially with alcohol and cigarettes. It’s a big fine for the seller and the establishment if you don’t card someone who is working undercover.

First of all, he’s an asshole and I suspect he either has a coke problem or a personality disorder. He’s the most mercurial person I’ve ever met. Plus he worships pussy.

Second, he bitched me out because he claims that she is a regular. He has recently been yelling at me for ID’ing people who I’ve seen before. But I don’t care if I have seen someone before. If I have the hunch to check them, I’m going to check them. I don’t care if the customer gets mad that I’ve already checked their ID multiple times. I’m not going to risk it.

If a female customer asks how old you think she is again, just answer 21. That’s the answer she wants to hear, and there is no way you can say 21 in a misinterpreted tone. Even if she couldn’t possibly be 21, it will come off as a joke and she’ll be forced to either let it go or she’ll have to really grill you on it. But just keep answering 21.

Whenever I’m in line at a store and I see some c~~~ acting out of control like that, I usually embarass them in front of everyone in the store. In this situation I would have said something like this:
“Ma’am, it’s the f~~~ing law and he has to card you. If you are wondering why, it’s probably because you are acting like a f~~~ing 4 year old..”

I always take the time to trash morons publicly, then I yell at them for wasting my time.

About a decade ago I worked in a very large liquor store as a security officer. When 3-4 young women came in and I asked only 1 or 2 for an ID often the other ones become upset saying: ” You don’t want my ID?! Meaning I do look like s~~~ or what ?? I am a same age as her ! One of them did complained to the store manager . The manager said: I am sorry madam, but since you do look like a 30years old it is not necessary to ask you for an ID.She pulled out her driving licence from her bag and started to scream : What do you just said? I do look like a 30years old ?? I am only 27!! And she stormed out. Man, so often women behavior is just pathetic.

Sounds like typical female sense of entitlement. You did the right thing by not selling to her. Also if this situation was part of a sting and they had charged you, do you think your boss would have defended you? Absolutely not!
