Bernie Sanders shows brilliance with tax idea. Tax stocks, bonds, derivatives.

Like many MAGA supporters, I am not opposed to new taxes, as along as I am not the one paying the taxes and those against MAGA supporters are the one’s paying the taxes towards projects MAGA supporters support.
In many way, such taxes would help mainstreet (the working class of the U.S.) and screw over wall street and the globalists.
Decades ago most mainstreet workers were forced out of the stock market, either through cashing out to pay bills, or companies executives debasing their company stocks to fund rich payouts/golden parachutes.
Here is how this tax idea is a win-win for mainstreet U.S.A.
It is hard to price in stock tax increases on consumer products because stocks are downstream of sales (products). If products prices are increased, less sales means less stock value.
On bonds. Many bonds are government bonds. So, taxing those that willingly invest in the government would be a lesson in of itself.
Derivatives are basically betting against the economy. Derivatives destroy the natural “supply and demand” effect of the economy by creating artificial limitations on the number of products, removing products from the market which would otherwise be sold by driving down the price of those products. Banning derivative trading would go a long way to lowing prices on goods. But, taxes on derivatives would only help consumers.
In addition, most of those whom use the U.S. stock markets, bond markets, and derivative trading are foreign investors and foreign companies.
Such taxes would cause on of two effects to happen.
Either such taxes would drive out foreign money from the U.S. While this would hurt the economy, this would remove foreign influence from the U.S.
Or, foreigners would be forced to pay U.S. taxes and thus government will have a new tax revenue stream, instead of increasing taxes on U.S. workers.
As you can see this is a win-win situation for mainstreet U.S.A./U.S. working class.
While I still support President Trump, if this is how Bernie Sanders wants to fund “free college”, I would support this tax plan because a number of states have for decades successfully used lotto ticket sales to fund college for people in those states. This would be the same priniple, only foreigners would be footing the bill.

No it wouldn’t. Outside of a brokerage account, if you have any money in a 401k, IRA, or time vested in a pension, your retirement has exposure(or at least it should if you aren’t an idiot) to stocks. Butt f~~~ing my investments to hand someone free college so they can get stoned for 4 years and walk away with degree in art history that qualifies them for a career at Starbucks isn’t helping me at all.

Anything to back this up? From what I can find, 51.9% of Americans own stocks. In terms of income, if you are anywhere from the 50th to the 90th percentile, there is a 75% chance you own some stock. That is individuals making roughly from 40-115k…if you don’t consider that working class, I’m not sure what working class would be.

Uh…what are you talking about? Profits are already taxed at 15% or 20% for long term capital gains or your income tax rate for short term capital gains. What investments are people paying less than one percent on? If some loop hole exists, by all means, close them, but Bernie’s idea is retarded. For starters…did you even read the article? They say right in it…

As far as what he actually wants to do, any time you buy or sell a stock, bond, or derivative the government skims a % off the total transaction. You could literally buy a stock, pay your transaction fee to the government, the stock could drop and you lose money, you sell the stock, and the government takes another transaction fee. What is good about that? You already tax people on their money they earn, and the profits they earn off their investments…you really think we just need to tax people every time they want to move money as well?
If college was so grand? Why after all these years do we not have anything to show for it? We have more problems than ever. You would be better just investing your money in the Khan Academy.

When I had problems with math? THe tutors were okay, but this site REALLY made a difference.

Are government legislators and bureaucrats the best allocators of limited resources (capital), or are entrepreneurs and business people?
Which allocation do you think will result in higher levels of economic growth? What would our economic output be like in a decade if our growth rate were 6% like China’s, instead of about 2.5% typically? High growth rates ARE possible if government spending is greatly reduced freeing up money for real investment.
Now, I actually think taxes should be CAPPED. Past paying for 10% more than the so-called ‘services’ I receive from federal, State, and local ganglords, I don’t think anyone should pay any more taxes on additional income. Why? If people want big government and vote for it, THEY should directly pay for it. Not corporations and individuals who save, invest, work hard, and advance in their careers and businesses.
I paid tens of thousands of dollars in ‘capital gains’ taxes (extortion money) last year. We are already taxing stock trades. Oh, and I was also taxed on the INCOME earned to purchase said stocks. I paid much, much more than 1%. Closer to 25%
Will such taxes help the working class? Where do you think companies get capital from to expand and hire more workers? They issue stock.
Main Street workers forced out of stock market? Not when 52% of families own stock or funds holding stock. Sure, numbers are down slightly from 60% twenty years ago, but only because as markets rise, average people buy into markets. Then they become gun shy after a recession like 2008, where you saw a downward spike.
The word ‘most’, by the way, means OVER fifty percent.
Trading derivatives is NOT betting ‘against the economy’. Even if one shorts a stock, they are anticipating ONE company’s stock price will decline.
Maybe the cost of college and health care rises faster than inflation because of limited payers—-government and insurance companies—-rather than individual rational actors responding to price signals in an unregulated market, which in my opinion would be more efficient.
I can’t comment too much on the Tax system. All I can say is that we already pay to much. Here in Oregon, no sales tax, But wait. WE HAVE A BIKE TAX? Not Motorcycle. BICYCLE-TAX.

Lets face it. Kids are no longer the bread and butter of their stock prices. So they need more people to serve. All they do today is give prescriptions as people ask for them. Sorry, but you and I know the truth.
Automate everything that can be. It needs to be done anyways. The Nurses (many who do a s~~~ job at some places) just need to be replaced with robots that will do a better job. PERIOD!

If these kids are having trouble for paying for education, why can they not apply for scholarships? Hate to say this, but most students are not there for the SCHOOLING. THey are there to take the free loans to support themselves.
Are they trying to get somewhere? Nope.

Before, Highschool all had AUTO SHOPS. Now? Where are they?
School music programs are almost all gone. And remember people use to meet up at the schools for meetings, events etc? No more.
Hell even schools don’t hold their own graduations there. It’s horrible.
The more time passes by, the more these people just take everything they get for granted. And then blame people for not giving them more.
And when you give them more, they eat it all up and then ask for more. And MORE.WHat are they giving back? Crime? Sad as it is, all we asked really was that these people get out of their poverty and do something. They are not.

I don’t know about you guys, but when I was in Middle school, we made Benches in Shop class for the school. But later on, the kids were so damn STUPID, they could not do that. SO they had to have them replaced by a company. No kidding. We made these benches, but they could not? Sure we did not weld the metal, but we made the wood and drilled and cut the plastic parts. And bolted it all up. And that was in 8th grade.
What about these kids? In fact the ALUMNI at my school always ask people to come and clean up Roosevelt High school. hello> WTF about the KIDS THAT GO THERE? Why is the ALUMIINI being asked to cleaning up after OTHER PEOPLE’S KIDS???
I hate to break this to you, but those MASS amounts of Hispanics seem to be doing NOTHING for the school or the community. In fact, anyone with any sense sends their kids to ANY OTHER SCHOOL. That’s the sad part. My High School is so bad now, I would not ever even THINK about doing anything there.
And even at the ALUMNI gatherings, who do I see, Some gay dude (no offese my but brothers) who is just another PC S~~~ lord.

Having foreigners fund the U.S. government is a very old, pro-U.S. idea. The Founding Fathers of the U.S. had planned to have much of the U.S. government be funded by foreigners through tariffs on imported goods.
As for the rest of you, you miss the point of my top post. Most stocks, bonds, and derivatives, are held by foreign groups. As such, taxes on stocks, bonds, and derivatives would either drive foreign influence from the U.S., or have foreigners fund the tax coffers.
Then tax money leaving the US economy, not all the trades. That would include immigrants sending back home and help the immigration problem. It would have an impact on multinational corporations as well and I don’t know what I think about that. There likely would be loopholes required.
The other thing I’d look at is taxing on transactions/activities that don’t actually benefit a market. Stock markets are great for raising capital, putting money to good use, as well, as leveling out downturns in a market. What isn’t useful is day trading short term gains where you are just looking to make a quick buck without actually investing anything. I would support an increased tax on short term gains perhaps.
As for the 48% who don’t buy stock, they are most certainly effected by the stock market. They work for companies that exist because of the markets. When their value goes down, the 48% are out of work. Any sort of tax that’s designed to slow down the market is bad for everyone.
Most importantly though, I’m not for free college regardless of where the funds come. if 18 years of tax paid education doesn’t get you to where you can get a job and provide for yourself, pay for your own education, 2 more years is not going to do it. We need to stop spending more money and start paying down the debt if we do anything at all.

And we all love money for nothing (taxing foreigners), just look at the extra taxes on hotel etc. at vacation destinations.
Now, with two kids headed to college in the next few years, I’d love it if it was free. But something tells me it’s only free for certain people, and I would make too much money to be one of those people. Why reward people for making smart financial decisions right?
College shouldn’t be free. You’d just end up with a bunch more kids taking stupid majors that will get them nothing once their done. And then a college degree would be like a high school diploma is now, just a bare minimum for any job. At that point you’d need a Master Degree or Doctorate to separate yourself. Which would just delay more people from entering the work force.

Definitely this…college is already a joke. I’m a millennial, I’ve been there recently, I’ve seen it first hand, I know. Lot’s of people are just there to live on or near campus for 4 years away from parents and have a good time and they end up with useless degrees because they were easier to get than something useful. The problem now is the government is throwing too much easy money at schools and students. We should be placing more restrictions on that funding, not increasing it and making it easier to get.
If we were going to raise tax revenue I’d rather see it go towards decreasing the deficit/debt than oh hey look…we got more money, let’s give it away faster than we get it while we continue to borrow to pay our obligations.

So you’re basically taking an extreme nationalistic viewpoint. I definitely want the wall, but I less concerned about those that are here. Keeping deporting until there is a wall and the system is fixed. After that point, I’m ok with amnesty of sorts as it will likely cost less and be seen as compromise.
On tariffs, I like them as a means of negotiation, as Trump is doing now. I also think they should be used as a counterbalance to the regulations the government imposes on US companies to create a fair playing field, as well as human rights issues. Chinese mines can operate more efficiently when they have little environmental regulations to worry about, or whether a miner dies on the job.
I have almost no sympathy for those with stocks, bonds, and derivatives. They would rather invest in the companies and governments that destroy the communities they live in than invest in the businesses and infrastructure of the communities they live in.
That’s an extremely broad assumption. Most of the stock I own is in the company I work for. You don’t see that as contributing to the community I live in? I’d also assume your against putting saving in anything but a local back/S&L?

An extra tax above capital gains in a country with already high taxes will push liquidity out of the US market into markets overseas. The real life effect will be devastating to the economy.
Farmers lean heavy on derivatives to keep from taking a big loss(also keeps them from a big gain, but that is beside the point) to keep a profit margin. As I am sure some companies do.The only good news is that Sanders is close to dead on arrival. His time is past.

In the face of the 2016 election win of President Trump, which he won by a block composed almost completely by the U.S. working class, with the globalist Hillary getting support from all other groups, the globalists realized that after half a century of abuse they were unable to break the U.S. working class. So, the globalists have decided to openly vilify and destroy the U.S. working class.
Globalists have spent three years of convincing their SJW puppets that the President Trump and the U.S. working class as being more evil than nazis and condoning violent against the U.S. working class.
The 2018 election was rigged so openly that it is disgusting. While ballot harvesting is bad. The bigger is issue is that the globalist convinced 45 republicans in Congress to quit and not help their replacement, so as to give the House to the democrats. Now, the globalists are using their puppets to push the “New Green Deal”, which if passed into law it would ban all technology and tear down all buildings in the U.S. By default this will be a Holodomor (look up the word) of the U.S. population due to a ban on technology means no food for the people. The “New Green Deal” true goal is to literally erase all evidence the United States ever existed. Such acts to erase a people/culture are a form of genocide.
