Sweet topic. I bought one of those Blend-tec blenders (good buy by the way). And I eat (drink) fruit and green smoothies a lot. Good way to get those fruits and veggies with the fiber. Either that or just a regular sandwich.
Takeout? I guess that’s up to what state I’m in. In NY there’s a Chinese place that’s a staple for me. Starbucks and endless hours watching science videos.
Georgia I liked subway with lots of pepperish and hottish, spicyish things. When I was in Texas I lived off of jalapeno chips (did not know they existed before that). Indiana it was Dominos. Georgia I also liked Little Caesars.
It depends on what the money situation is like. I’m willing to bet I’m like most of y’all sometimes feast and sometimes famine. Famine times its cheap rubbish and lots of stuff that don’t expire or feast times (like now) its lots of fruits and veggies and great meals here and there. Damn I love food.
I’m eating a lot of “bro food” at the moment. Lots of eggs and chicken/turkey. Also buying those packaged assorted nuts that planters puts out.
The whole oven roasted turkey breast that Costco puts out is amazing. I’ll never buy turkey lunch meat again. I can just cut chunks off of that and eat them on the spot with nothing else. Also can eat hard boiled eggs with salt on them like crazy.
The Children of Doom... Doom's Children. They told my lord the way to the Mountain of Power. They told him to throw down his sword and return to the Earth... Ha! Time enough for the Earth in the grave.I enjoy cooking, particularly when I can experiment. I like to take an existing recipe and adapt it using different ingredients or proportions, and also different spices. I also like combining dishes in new ways.
One dish I’ve made on several occasions includes steamed fish, steamed banana, boiled and then fried rice along with fried mushrooms and veggies, including red chili pepper. Sometimes I add a sauce. Oh, and spices, of course 😉There lies serenity in Chaos. Seek ye the eye of the hurricane.
I despise cooking and food preparation in any form. I will only do what I absolutely have too. This has actually improved my diet. Fresh/frozen vegetables and fruit. High fiber cereals, prepared chicken or lunch meats. I almost never eat any type of red meat, never really liked it. Edamame consists of about 30% of my diet and rising. My rule-of-thumb food theory: Don’t eat for recreation.
Agree 100% with the slow cooker (Crock Pot brand). It’s the easiest way to cook and in my experience, makes the best tasting food. As far as “takeout”, I made broccoli and chicken (or broccoli beef) like you would get at a Chinese takeout place. Oh…my..damn…. best I’ve ever had. I don’t make rice with it, just the broccoli and chicken. You could make some sticky rice separate in a rice cooker. Anyway: soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and a few other ingredients. Slow cooker all the way.
soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil,
Hoisin sauce can make a bland meal taste way better. I use it on the baked chicken I buy from the supermarket.
"I saw that there comes a point, in the defeat of any man of virtue, when his own consent is needed for evil to win-and that no manner of injury done to him by others can succeed if he chooses to withhold his consent. I saw that I could put an end to your outrages by pronouncing a single word in my mind. I pronounced it. The word was ‘No.’" (Atlas Shrugged)
All I can say to this thread is that anyone; man, women, straight, gay, young or old, you gain automatic respect when you cook a decent meal.
I have not dated a girl yet or known anyone really, who claims they are capable with making food, no one cooks anymore.
Even making stock, no one does it except for restaurants.I had the privilege of living with my cousin in mainland Vancouver who has been the executive chef at a few restaurants and was able to learn some stuff from him.
As for bachelor meals, I honestly just live off the bulk bins in the grocery store. I spend around 20 bucks, I buy some short grain brown rice and some kind of bean, like black beans or lentils. At home I would also make sure to have an onion and some powered chicken stock and some oil, and maybe some butter.
I eat that for at least the next ten days.I’m okay with eating the same thing day in day out as long as my belly is full.
