Technically it could be solved adding a javascript code that save the current thread name/id/url (something unique for that thread) + the current reply content in users local storage. Use some pooling like every 3 seconds if the content has changed AND/OR when the user press the Post my Reply button.

So, when viewing a thread, the very first thing to the page in the client side would be to check if there is a not published reply for that thread. If there is, load that and put it into the answer text field, so the user can continue to edit it. Or show a pop up asking “you have a draft reply for this thread, want to restore it ?”

This suggestion fix 2 problems, one is the problem of this thread (automatic kick causing the loss of your reply) and the other is, if a user by accident closes the wrong tab, he can by just opening that thread again, “recover” his reply. Also, it is compatible with mobile devices, so the solution will also help mobile users.

To avoid leaving junk in the users browser I would recommend a check if the reply was successful published after pressing Post my Reply button, if so, erase it from users local storage.

I learned, many years ago, to type my stuff on notepad or word then copy paste it to your browser, and for the exact reason you just mentioned. Every website can f~~~ you and will, at some point.

    Trivial s~~~.

When your post consists of only two words, yes, quite trivial indeed. When your post is several paragraphs long and took an hour to compose because you wanted to state things as accurately and succinctly as possible, not quite so trivial.

This automatic log out system seems antithetical to the MGTOW spirit of personal responsibility. Bank websites will log you out for security purposes, but posters here don’t reveal any personal or sensitive information, and if someone else happens to post on your account because you let him use your computer without logging out, that’s on you. I’d prefer permanent login, but I don’t do any of the work to maintain the website so I’ll take what I can get.
