Jason Newsted was a solid replacement but they ran him off. Though not as talented as Cliff, he held is ground solidly imo. Lars should have had Cliff’s bunk that night imo………………………..

I agree. I tried watching that doco they did “Some Kind of Monster” and they really do behave like a bunch of bitches.

Jason added some great growls to the songs and it now takes the current bassist and Kirk to do backing vocals and they still don’t even come remotely close.

I started listening to a newer guy: Brendan Small. He wrote all the Dethklok music and has 2 metal operas, Galatikon 1 & 2. His drummer is amazing.
Give his: Blazing Star, song a try and see if it floats your boat, free on YouTube, he threw an orchestra behind this song.

I enjoy recent death metal a bit more than anything “classic”.

Revocation’s one of my current favorite band (example of song would be “Dismantle the Dictator”). Also Meshuggah which is very technical. It’s a delight to listen to (try the song “Spasm” and listen to the part with the guitar solo). It’s definitely not easy to listen to, which is what I like.

Anyway, let’s say I have peculiar tastes in music. haha

It has to be intellectually stimulating.
