Alcoholism – disease or not?

First off – delete this if completely irrelevant,KM, but I’ve seen men on this drink themselves into Oblivion, insult people and then disappear in shame.

I’ve lost count of how many daft comments have been made towards others that are regrettable by myself and others i’ve seen do it.

The NHS tells UK residents that if you drink every day then you have a disease – does a sick person walk themselves into an off license and request a litre of vodka because they aren’t well?

Is there a complete lack of ownership of a problem here?

Is it enabling to tell someone they’re drinking because they have an illness?

A friend of mine recently started work with a company that informed him in his contract that those with drinking problems will be sent to see the doctor and there will be no disciplinary measures.

This is the part that you really won’t believe. it stated that an employee can drink in the office on occasion if signed off by a manager.

Alcoholics drink for the feeling that comes after they drink. They don’t care what they drink, they just want to drink. If it’s brown, pour it!

So i do think alcoholism is a disease. Alcoholics yearn for their next drink, use any money they have to get their next drink, alcoholism will cause someone to say f~~~ it and drive drunk.

Casual drinkers don’t do this.

As a doctor… yes alcoholic are sick people, they have a mental and phisical desease. Couse their body and brain got used to the drug.

And no one, I repeat no one should drink.

Maybe once or twice a year. But people this days chug down four beers a day and I don’t even know why.

Beer does not taste good. At all, taste like p~~~, we all know is true, I think we got mentally manipulated, Also Coca-Cola, tastes like s~~~.

Don’t even get me started on tabaco.

No sane human been should be able to enjoy alcohol, colas, smoke, its unnatural.

But… some people like it.

Why does it keep going? Couse governments and multinational make trillions in alcoholic, trash drinks and tabaco every year.

Ever heard the phrase: “She can drive a man to drink?”

Men start to drink mostly to cope with the grief women cause in them. Boys from broken homes with yelling and blame shaming mothers are way more likely to become drinkers than boys growing up in healthy conditions.

If a man is a total non-drinker he is almost “a red flag” for women.

All of the women I knew were scared when I told them that I never drink and that I have no sorrow or drama in life that needs “to be cured” by alcohol.

These c~~~s knew that they have no handle to control me.

No painkiller to give to me after they raped me by throwing out my 25 K stereo or so.

These women knew that if they step over my line they would not have a chance to make me drunk and “forget it all”… I will give them consequences.

No painkiller: “Immediate eject” of drama and unhappiness causing female related hardship.

If the sale of alcohol would be stopped from one second to the other, many c~~~ wives would be thrown out of the window by their husbands.

Most married men only endure the woman and the s~~~ty life they have with a buzz in their brains!

And no chad f~~~ing parties at my house… No other men pouring beer or bongwater in my record collection.

All women are nowadays “current” or “used to be” party sluts, even the ugly ones…

What we call “tuna” is the smell of cellular decay. And they think it’s strange when a man age 50 still smells like a boy…

Very many women are silent, secret and concealed alcoholics and that’s why they stink…

And being a “non drinker” excludes you from their list.

The second “red flag” for women is what I told them “I have quit chain smoking +10 years ago” (now 17.5 years)

As very many (or even “most”) women today are smokers, this narrows down my appeal to them even further.

I think alcoholism is a combination of two things.

The first is a natural tolerance to ethanol’s metabolites which are toxic chemicals in their own right. This would be a genetic predisposition. The second is the effect that chronic heavy alcohol use has on the brain’s ability to create and utilize serotonin and dopamine in a normal fashion. This is the addictive component in that they must drink to feel normal.

I call disease.

I get hangovers very easily a built-in punishment mechanism.

From medical school: Alcoholism is a medically described disease because it has a predictable set of risk factors and symptoms, and a predictable prognosis. The exact genetic component has not yet been worked completely, but there is a strong statistical correlation that very strongly suggests that there is one. One can argue that it is a voluntarily chosen disease, at least in the beginning, but it’s a disease.

From a alcoholic/addiction counselor: Addicts use their drug to escape some amount of legitimate emotional pain. Many alcoholics are drinking to anesthetize themselves from emotional pain that resulted from events so far back they can no longer remember them, but the pain from them remains. Combat veterans, former orphans or child abuse victims etc.

Some observations from multiple recovered alcoholics: Alcoholics drink in order to escape pain. Over time, the amount of alcohol necessary to escape that pain progressively increases. The more they drink, the more problems are caused by it. They continue to drink until alcohol brings them more pain than it takes away. By that time, it has usually brought enormous pain to everyone around them.

From one self admitted alcoholic to another alcoholic (still denying that he is an alcoholic): If alcohol causes you problems, then alcohol IS a problem. If you find that it causes problems with your job, your health, your family, your friends, your local police… then it is a problem.

For the typical homeless skid row wino, the loss of home, job, family, money, health, security… is still not as painful as whatever it is they are drinking to escape from.

Medical trivia: Alcohol is the only addiction who’s withdrawal symptoms can be lethal. Abrupt cessation of alcohol by someone heavily dependent on it can result in lethal seizures. Even heroin withdrawal, while extremely unpleasant, is not lethal.

After 13 years of mixed toxic but odorless chemical exposure I have gotten CFS and MCS (T 78.4) + a long list of other damages. And I can tell by smelling or just breathing in the fumes of whatever people have around them – if it is toxic or not…

Anything that attacks the body in any way causes lung inflammations in seconds and I have to leave the area or die from lung bleeding.

Depending on the trigger chemical. But anything unhealthy… In the tiniest traces… I react to it.

When I leave a supermarket after like 30 minutes I have to hit the bed for many hours to recover from the poison mixture in the air.

I became sensitive to microwave radiation. Someone using a cell phone next to me is like the cold wind in the face sitting at a bus stop in the winter time. My whole body tingles afterwards.

My exposure consisted of Barium chloride (ancient rat poison, 19th century wood preservative), Phtallic Anhydride, Pentachlorophenol, Lindane, Permethrine, Endosulfane and the Dioxins that always came with the wood preservatives used in 5 million German homes.

My “romantic old-style” business place almost killed me.

But I finally got behind it all after my body became highly allergic to the air in there (I almost fell to the floor while working and crawled outside to recover) and then I realized what had happened.

But since then – mid 2014 – I can detect everything like a drug dog.

Most chemicals are “out” by now, but the dioxins will take another 10 x 10 years to decay. Ticks still die off when they bite me.

Drinking alcohol is off limits since then. Alcohol is neuro-toxic and would kill the remainder of my nerves… Giving my the wheelchair, if I started to drink.

But the smell of these drinks trigger my MCS, depending on what it is…

Same goes for sugar… And alcoholic beverages come with s s~~~load of sugar…

Alcohol is a poison, it’s best not to drink at all. This society encourages people to drink, and you can see the effects of it. Look at a culture that doesn’t drink, or a young person that doesn’t drink, and then see them in their older ages, compared to a drinker in their middle ages. The aging is extremely visible.

The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, written a century ago, claim promoting alcoholism and drug use was one of the tools of enslaving and ruining a people. You can argue the veracity of it, but you can’t argue the reality of what alcohol and promiscuous sex have done to the fabric of American society. This is what makes me unsure.

Drinking is a choice, just like overeating or shooting heroin – all will create addiction at some point.

When a child gets luekemia or an ageing person gets pneumonia – it’s not a result of their actions.

This is what i’m not sure of – can you really call it a disease when you choose to do it?

@Joller: I’ve a close friend who must drink heavily daily. There is no choice for him. He is beginning to suffer tremors when he goes without drink. Alcohol has a serious negative effect on the biochemistry that runs our bodies.

I also want to commend Phoenix for bringing the overall negative impact on our culture into the discussion.

Like I said, I was a chain smoker and quit after mental success training. Reading books like “Napoleon Hill – Think And Grow Rich” and listening to stacks of business audio books from Brian Tracy got me into the right lane and away from self destructive behavior.

Away from having to prove something to the crowd.

I was never a “crowd pleaser” anyway but after that I got my fixed direction to leave everything behind that the losers do so well.

And I became proud of saying no.
