Yep, I was married for six years. When we first married, she was a Spanish teacher. While engaged married, she switched to teaching elementary. Didn’t like that so went back to teaching Spanish. When I told her part time wouldn’t help with the bills after childcare expenses, I was ‘crushing her dreams’. After we were separated, she went back to teaching Spanish. Women have one of the worst existential issues out of them all: the issue of Bad Faith.

Bad Faith is fairly simple to understand. It has to do with happiness. If you realize that happiness only comes from the decision that you are happy, you live an Authentic Existence. You have to decide that happiness comes from the inside. Victor Frankel wrote that some of his happiest moments in life were in a Nazi concentration camp.

The flip side is obvious: you think that something external will ‘make’ you happy. A car, a job, clothes, money, take your pick. However, these things don’t have some magical power to bring happiness. A new source of external happiness becomes the goal. And on and on and on…

Males can live in bad faith too. The obvious Bad Faith source is women. “If I could have a girlfriend/ wife, I would be happy”. Classic simp thinking.

The thread I wrote about films was a specific example of this concept.

(In between writing this, I went out to get breakfast. Providence struck. The crazy chainsmoker lady in my apartment building was in the lobby. I’m a generally friendly person, so I asked her how school is going. She tell everyone she is pre-med. Hasn’t passed O-chem, A&P, or Calc after 6 years of school).

“School is so hard. I’m just so lost and don’t know where I’m going. I’ve wanted to be a psychiatrist for so long, I just don’t know. But…the other day I was watching a show about dermatology, and it just was so interesting! I think it would be cool to do that!”.
