The worst two terms I have ever heard “figure it out yourself” and “you don’t need to know”.

During my childhood, on top of the condescending distrust toward me, I had to deal with the fact that those around me delighted in forcing me to remain ignorant on everything.

When I desired or needed to know something, I was told, “figure out it out, yourself”.

And also, when i asked a question about a problem that I clearly could not figure out on my own, I was told “I did not need to know.”

I knew this was bulls~~~ and they just wanted me to suffer.

And I watched those same people answer, help, and inform everyone else that requested their aid, and sought information. Everyone but me.

But, I did figure all that matters out my own. That I was screwed no matter what. That every level in this society sought to keep me down while elevating everyone else based off of race, gender, fancial status of family.

That I was just considered garbage to be used and thrown away.

With all of this based on wrongful, prejudicial judgments toward me beyond my control.

I realized this when I was thirteen.

But, I also realize this entire system that society runs on is screwed. That while I enjoy my time reading a book, everyone else is on hamster wheels, and when the crash happens none of them will have anything to show for their efforts.

I will have at least spent my time expanding my mind and enjoying myself. And in the end all one has is time.
So, what are your thoughts on dealing with people that prevent you from solving your problems? Those that work to make you remain ignorant, while helping everyone else?

I’m a slow learner, always have been and always will be. But I’m not dumb, and it took me until my late twenties to discover that.

But since anyone tasked with teaching me did not have the patience to guide me through a problem, then I was simply dismissed. English, math, science — dismissed.

But when I was in my late twenties, I’d had enough of being uneducated. So I started rolling in remedial college classes and, for the fist time in my life, learned my times tables, how to divide, and algebra. Two years later I passed a full year of calculus with an A. I got a 4.0 in physics. My essays were submitted to competitions. In spite of this, I’m still a slow learner, and people still don’t have patience to help me through new material.

So even at 53 years old, I still shy away from any mainstream learning where I’m expected to learn at a pace that’s simply not suited to me. So this has kept me somewhat on the fringe of my various professions for fear of being found out that I’m not like all of the other drones. And I’m thankful for that.

Because as you stated, following societal expectations will put you on the miserable path to striverdom. Strive for the career; strive for the status; strive for the house; strive for the wife and kids — those people are miserable.

So yeah, I feel like a bit of an outcast. The poetic justice of it all is that my family and friends, who followed the drone path, say that they envy me. They say my life has been filled with all of the adventure and risks they wish they had had the guts to pursue. And yet it was their conformist world that pushed me to the fringe to begin with. Go figure.

It’s really f~~~ing dismissive. I was a book worm when I was younger. I loved to write and still do. My favorite was when I asked mom or dad how to spell something. They’re tell me.

    “Look in the dictionary.”

Even as a young kid, this p~~~ed me off. You realize that in order to look something up you have to know how to spell it, right? The word “knight” for example. English is a language full of exceptions to rules regarding language. So I spent a week going through the “n” part of the dictionary trying to sound it out, and never did. Eventually I figured it out, but now I return the favor when my mom needs help with technology. Figure it out yourself. OOOOOOOOh, not so great when the shoe’s on the other foot…

When I desired or needed to know something, I was told, “figure out it out, yourself”.

Well Faust, it could still have been worse, because in my upbringing I was very often being accused of not listening to my parents advice (in particular to my mother’s advice as it were) and guess what always came from my mom whenever I ran into trouble afterwards..? The same old s~~~ phrase: “Well, that only serves you right (since you never listen to me anyway do you..?)…” to which even back then I probably should have answered something along the lines of: “Maybe so mom, but at least I was never too shy or too much of a coward to learn the “real hard way”, thank you!

It always was that underlying adjacent negative assumption that I never listened anyway which really p~~~ed me off at the time (and occasionally still does to this day) rather than phrasing it in a slightly more positive way from her end like: “Oh, you’ve just learned something more for your life…”

I'd rather die a natual death with a clear MGTOW conscience somewhere off the grid than one within "modern" civilisation with a big stress mark on my forehead and a couple of dozen tubes plugged into my body. Back to the plantation..? Me..? Hey, literally: I won't ever fucking kid myself...YZERLMNTSIC

This is very similar to the phrase “go Google it yourself” which I loathe.

Every time I had a problem with something, I always ended up asking my teachers in college which students are SUPPOSED to do. But what did they end up telling me? “Go Google it yourself.”

That saying p~~~es me off so much. I’m not a slow learner, but I do learn a whole lot differently than other people around me because the classroom setting is boring as f~~~ to me.

And when I get bored, I don’t want to do anything except get out of that situation as soon as possible. Nothing interests me when I’m in a boring situation such as a classroom setting.
