Young American here, wanting to do a working holiday in Australia or NZ. Not looking for women. Any advice on the two countries would be appreciated- suggested jobs, housing, cities/regions in NZ and/or Australia…thank you.
I want to go in January as it will be summer over there. I’m thinking 3-6 months although technically I could be over there for a year. Also considering renting an RV to live in in either country, that way I wouldn’t have to pay hotel/hostel.
hello traditionalist11,
the one thing I wish I did more of was travel in my younger days – so good for you.
I’m not sure of the process – but start with Australian or NZ embassy in the US. If you do come to work, there is much seasonal fruit picking in Australia & it will take you to some beautiful & remote parts of the country. Sadly, there’s a lot silly crap you may hear about Australia (killer spiders that eat cows etc etc ) – I unfortunately get asked some silly questions about Australia when I travel – but with each trip I find the world a little more educated about different parts of the world. Having been to many parts of the US – several times, I think you find a enough number of similarities that you should enjoy it.
I wish you all the best I your travels – and I am happy you haven’t done as too many young men do & that is to just marry your high school sweetheart and wait and watch her get fat and annoying.
happy trails mate
PS don’t get freaked out by the cost of things over here when you start looking into expenses. Our wages are quite high, so its all kinda proportional
G’day mate. What qualifications do you have? There is a large variety of work to do in Aus but give me some details and i can help you out specifically. Personally i’d go blue collar because it pays surprisingly well.
I’ve lived in Australia for 19 years (my whole life) and been all around the country, north, south, east, west. The cost of living is high but so are the wages, thankfully. If i were you i’d stay around Queensland and particularly Queensland’s north. It is typical Australia as many Americans define it and there are plenty of by MacVx” target="_blank" href=”#92025554″> jobs
of all calibre to do. Avoid cities like Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney because they are nothing special and basically just blue pill hell holes. I’m joining the Army next year and live in Townsville, i’d recommend you work there for a little while because it has so many different industries. Mining, University, restaurants, wildlife, Army (though it gets bloody hot in summer and you can’t swim or you’ll be killed by tiny jellyfish, really, you will.)
Perth is great for work and most of the people are down to earth and blue collar. (They are very keen on drinking and drugs though.) The idea of renting a motor home would be perfect i think, as hotels can be rather expensive. Good luck and make sure you watch out for the incredibly deadly animals in Australia while you are here, they don’t f~~~ around.
