So, I’m still a teenager so that means I’m working a part time job while I finish high school. I’m taking 3 college classes this year such as AP Computer Science, AP Physics, and AP US History. I got called into work last Sunday from 3:30 til 11:30 which would be the closing shift. I work at a pizza chain that’s on the highway (rest stop), so Sunday is our busiest day. My work is mostly female, only 3 male employees including myself. This girl was sitting there texting and being a sassy bitch when I asked for help since there was 20 f~~~ing sandwiches I needed to make,. Knowing myself, I would’ve been a total dick to her so I went to my manager who then complained to me that I didn’t handle it on my own.. What the f~~~ should I do?

Next time that happens, really dial up a SMILE, and in your BEST friendly voice , say to her:

“Don’t let the fact that I’m working interfere with you sitting around doing nothing”.

    —-OR —–

“Don’t let the fact that I’m working interfere with you texting your friends”.

Like it’s funny. Really throw it out there nice and loud and friendly.

… and then switch to a totally serious face. Then go back to doing your job.. You won’t need to say anything else. If she doesn’t get off her ass and JUMP, you go tell the boss that’s what you said to her. Highly effective if the boss (or someone else ) is there too. Its very useful in other situations too…… like if someone is taking their sweet time and making you wait: “Don’t let the fact that I’m waiting for you interfere with your wasting my time”.

It really gets their attention and they have to THINK about it for a second.
You say it all friendly with a smile, but then switch to a serious face and they realize it’s a dig.

It’s like telling her she’s f~~~ing lazy and useless, without telling her she’s f~~~ing lazy and useless.

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.

I really like KeyMaster’s approach on this one. Sometimes sarcasm (which most of the time, it really isn’t, just reality dressed with alttle bit of IN YOUR FACE) can be your best friend. It can be the subtlest of weapons, or the heaviest of Thor’s hammers.

When I was younger, and worked odd jobs, or god forbid something that involved “Customer Service” at the base public level ( I would have a hard time wading into those wateers now methinks), I found it very difficult to work with those who had ZERO work ethic.

“I need to shadow you a bit more. This is great. How long do you have to work here before you can do that?”

    “Do what?”

” Well, that. Nothing. What is your position here?”

    “Ummmm nothing. Same as you.”

“NO WAY. THIS IS AWESOME. SWEEEET. I gotta ask (insert manager’s name here) how I’m doing.” (insert any number of phrases which I am no longer in touch with)

I always did this sort of thing in a loud, but not mocking voice, almost playing the idiot.

    OR

    Blatant reference.

Blurting out when customer is not there.

Talking in completely friendly voiice, don’t blink even once, have complete fake smile on face that does not even budge.

EG) “I used to work at this place. Man this chick was f~~~ing useless. She would just sit and text all day long. She did NOTHING. NOTHING. She’s literally the worst person I’ve ever had to work with in my entire life.” on and on and on and on; describe that t~~~ perfectly, right down to a hair, but do not remotely mention or allude that you are talking about her. Almost make her feel like an ally. Just give her a complete mirror image of how utterly pathetic sheis. Go on and on and then start allowing her into the conversation by way of questions.

“Don’t you HATE people like that?” “Isn’t that f~~~ing insane?” “Can you believe a piece of s~~~ like that”?

It’s amazing how quickly they’ll start slowly going back to work, and might even sit there with a freflective, hollow, embarrassed look on their face for the remainder of the shift.

The c~~~s want, a car, a house, and everything in between but don’t want to deal with the bulls~~~ that comes with it.
That’s her problem not yours, and just use Keymasters sarcasm.

I went to my manager who then complained to me that I didn’t handle it on my own..

That’s a poor manager, it wasn’t that the co-worker and yourself weren’t getting along(which you should be able handle on your own),
it was that the co-worker wasn’t WORKING, which is HIS responsibility.
He’s protecting his ass by attempting to get you to handle it, because he doesn’t want to get involved in co-worker “drama”.
That way, if things go bad (SHE goes to the manager to complain about you), he can easily fire YOU, or even both of you.
But be certain that he’ll keep his job, which is his FIRST priority.

You could always quit (give two weeks notice, do it right, don’t just walk out), and tell your manager you are leaving because other employees would rather sit around texting than working. Now that you’ve said something to him about it already, he’ll know he lost an employee because of her. This isn’t a corporate job. Its working at a pizza place. That’s not a slam on you. Its meant to illustrate that this isn’t a career path job. Go find someplace else to work. In my opinion you can’t fix s~~~ like that. Your manager is probably too chicken-s~~~ to say anything to an employee about their negative behavior. It is NOT your job to do so.
