    Hey everyone,

So I’ve been taking a course in a male dominated industry – the class is a dozen guys, led by a guy. Guy stuff. Love it!

But one of us has a slight learning difficulty, and has been awarded an assistant to help him get through the coursework, and you guessed it, she’s female. And way past the wall. And grumpy.

Before ever introducing herself to me, she approached me from behind, and told me off for tipping my chair back. Not a great start. Today however, the guy talk was going well, a bit of banter, and while we were watching an instructional video on workplace safety, I commented on one of the slides on the video:

Me: “Uh-oh! Why does that sign say ‘Men Working’? Why doesn’t it say ‘Women working’
Rest of class: ripples of laughter
Me: “Oh I know! It’s cause women DON’T work!”
    Class: Much laughter.
    Feminist: Death eyes towards me.

Feminist then proceded to actively death stare me again a few minutes later. So as soon as we went on break, I legged it over to the management office [all male], and told them I was uncomfortable with a woman in a men’s environment, and [due to being a DV survivor] I was uncomfortable with her covert aggression, especially as my comment was clearly a joke, as we all know that actually, women do work.

Next thing I know, they are crowding round me to get me to write a report, and that head office are coming down tomorrow to take my statement. BANG! That escalated quickly. Ron Burgundy all over.

Keep watching this space to see what happens. The course doesn’t finish until the end of next week, so there’s plenty of time to stir things up…

Assaulting you with her eye-rays. Love it! Hahaha!

Good move! The best defense is a strong offense, as they say.

Way to go for you. When you’re in position to strike, strike hard and don’t let it go. You know if the roles were reversed she’d be all over your ass, so let her have it until she can’t remember her name!

There… THAT’S the point where she f~~~ed up.

It seems to me that this is a perfect example of where women often squander the opportunity to experience and learn, first hand, the nature of fraternity and male bonding. She was given a rare opportunity to earn herself an honorary place amongst her male counterparts by going through the same initiation process that we routinely, and subconsciously undertake whenever we engage with other guys. By it’s very nature, it’s often humiliating because it strips the individuals of their pretence and exposes their real, underlying, personalities. How one handles the ridicule will ultimately determine their popularity.

Perhaps that’s why so many women think that so called ‘male chauvinism’ is endemic. What they fail to recognise is that we’re not that discriminating – douchebaggery will be greeted with the same contempt, regardless of gender.

    Thanks for your comments, guys!

Today I had the “big interview”, but sadly, it was a woman who was Network Head. How did I not guess that a teaching institution would have a female lead?

Anyway, I went over the whole thing with her, and luckily there was male assistant Head in the room as well. She made some notes, and commented that the Feminist had a “confidence issue”, which they would assist her with by giving her more training!!?

WHY DID I EVER THINK THIS WOULD TURN OUT DIFFERENTLY??

Imagine the roles were reversed – man gives death stare to woman who has just said that guys have commitment problems, while the whole class of women laughed, then she goes to complain about the death stare. What do you think the result of that one would be? More training for him because he has a confidence issue?? No. Formal warning, if not straight dismissal, possible charges for intimidating behaviour, and banning from that institute of learning.

*VENTS ANGER LOUDLY TO THE WALL*

What seems to be worse, is that the guy with the learning problem quit yesterday, and stormed off shouting at the course instructor. When I enquired with some of the other guys, apparently he’d had enough of the Feminist! I did bring that to the attention of the course instructor, but did point out that it was not my place to get involved, since I already had the complaint made, the inference being that it would look like I had a personal vendetta against her.

No doubt she’ll receive training for that too.

    Grrrr…

Well, you did it by the numbers and you effectively pre-empted any actions on her part to seek vindictive recourse for her perceived slights. You may well have saved your job so it wasn’t a failure by any means. 🙂
