We’ve all experienced ’em. Women are allowed to get away with a lot more than men are. They can dress almost however they want to, no matter how revealing. They can spread gossip as much as they wish. They can say “you’re such a GUY” when it comes to how you do things (just imagine saying “you’re such a GIRL” to a woman you work with).
Just a bit earlier, I found out I was accepted to attend the junior college near me again. I then decided to call and find out what class to take. I was caught up on my work and everything, and all students in my office (I work at a university as most know) were taken care of. In the midst of my call and registration for classes, my female (now pregnant, by the way) boss comes up with a lovely little sticky note that says:
“Now is not the time for personal calls. Wrap the call up and take the call outside next time.”
Funny, because I see her on her cell EVERY DAY in her office. I wish I could write her the same note! I’m just trying to improve my life situation here by finally pursuing my Public Administration degree (while most women here are seriously studying for Academics or Women’s Studies, by the way). My previous boss, an older lady, was totally cool with me doing this kind of thing last year when I almost attended. I wish she hadn’t retired. Though she was a woman, she was a lot more logical, hard-working, and not nearly as hypocritical as this one. If she was still here, I’d likely not be searching for another place to work now as I have been.
Had another interview yesterday (the 9th one in about 2 months) with another college nearby. The work would be a little harder, but I’d still naturally grasp it and make several thousand more a year.
What you’re discribing is so familiar. They pretend to preach to you about this ethic or that one, even when they clearly see you’re busy, while they’re guikty of it or worse.
One guy I used to work with lost hand because of a nagging supervisor. He got distracted by her bulls~~~ and got his hand smashed. Of course, she didn’t get in trouble, but he went to the hospital and because of the injury he couldn’t work there anymore. And you know what she was bitching about? The way he organized his time around the machine!(??)
I was so happy to have found a roofing job after years of corporate feminism bulls~~~ and that accident.Don't let them Blame, Shame or Tame you!
Give 'em NOTHING, not even an answer!
#GenderSegragationNow!I should find that sticky note she wrote me (I threw it away immediately, trying to hide my inner rage) and put her EXACT note on her desk next time she’s on her cell phone.
Anyway, I like helping people out and whatnot, but being quite literally the bottom of the totem pole in this office is getting to me. I get my second annual raise on September 1st. If it’s not much higher, I’m finding a temp agency. I love the benefits the State provides me, but the mental anguish is really getting to me.
I was in Computer Science and obtained two certificates in computer-related work. My problem is when it comes to everything I study, I forget most everything afterward. I can fix a computer’s software/hardware problems, but I usually have to look up how to do it. Memorizing anything has always been hard for me, and I’ve tried for years to improve it. It’s why I’m having to take an easier math course, just to knock it out on my list of basics. The formulas just don’t stick for some reason. The only subjects that seem to stick in my brain is anything government/political/historical-related. 🙁
Sounds more like a boss being a boss. It gets tricky being able to take it on the chin and stay on track.
Just keep on keeping on the path to bettering yourself. Because one of these days when the s~~~ rolls down hill, you will be in a position (wherever you are) to push it right back up and get away with it.

Think of the code/configs running on a computer as its system of governance and bureaucracy, and the data/log files are it’s citizenry and history. Just a thought….
Also of the three branches mentioned earlier, database admins(dba’s) are in high demand. My company is hiring a MySQL dba to the tune of 140K+ per year and we had one HELLUVA time finding a guy.
Plus if you’re comfortable with government and bureaucracy kinds of things, database work would likely seem very familiar in it’s fundamental structures.
