Abstract

Evolution equips sexually reproducing species with mate choice mechanisms that function to evaluate the reproductive consequences of mating with different individuals. Indeed, evolutionary psychologists have shown that women’s mate choice mechanisms track many cues of men’s genetic quality and ability to invest resources in the woman and her offspring. One variable that predicted both a man’s genetic quality and his ability to invest is the man’s formidability (i.e. fighting ability or resource holding power/potential). Modern women, therefore, should have mate choice mechanisms that respond to ancestral cues of a man’s fighting ability. One crucial component of a man’s ability to fight is his upper body strength. Here, we test how important physical strength is to men’s bodily attractiveness. Three sets of photographs of men’s bodies were shown to raters who estimated either their physical strength or their attractiveness. Estimates of physical strength determined over 70% of men’s bodily attractiveness. Additional analyses showed that tallness and leanness were also favoured, and, along with estimates of physical strength, accounted for 80% of men’s bodily attractiveness. Contrary to popular theories of men’s physical attractiveness, there was no evidence of a nonlinear effect; the strongest men were the most attractive in all samples.

This is why it is imperative that young men work out and maintain their health as their top priority. Women will one day have all the jobs and men will be desired for their physical and emotional strength. This is already happening in Japan, even though there is some slight cultural variance in terms of what is physically attractive.

I try and tell a lot of my younger male relatives to not care too much about money and resources. I tell them to focus on their health and find something that brings them satisfaction in their every day life. They have no interest in traditionalism and are very receptive to what I have been telling them.

I’m a physically large dude that lifted weights and still lifts today. It doesn’t matter, there are 10324321223125342 disqualifiers a woman can make up if she really wants, and the vast majority of men and women are not nearly as attractive as they pretend on the internet and in “scientific (really psychology)” “studies”.

One study will tell you height, another will tell you language, another will say intelligence, another hair, another facial hair, another the clothes you wear, another your social status, another the money you make.

And it’s all endless bulls~~~, and it doesn’t even matter.

I could also point out that asking nerds and women about this type of stuff is pretty foolish. In fact, anyone that has done any combat sports or sports in general can immediately tell you power is generated with your legs and core in virtually everything. My shoulder and arms look nice and help in some limited things, but in sports look at the builds of the best boxers and MMA athletes. Very few bodybuilder hulking upper bodies. And those guys are never the best either. Instead, skinny or lithe forms are predominantly the best.

Yes, but I don’t think that’s relevant to women. Women are hard-wired to focus on upper body strength because there was a point in time where it was advantageous to have more upper body strength. Just compare a male lion to a female lion. A male lion would struggle in artificial sporting events, but no lioness could compete with a male in terms of his natural ability to take down prey or fight off other predators.

This study takes height into account. I haven’t seen the other studies but I still think this is relevant for young men who want to build up their confidence and have an edge.

I have no problem looking like a PUA. I am physically fit because it makes me feel good. I have been working out since I was a teenager. I don’t think I will ever stop.

That was a well written up study and it does put to rest a few of the myths that women put out about what they like in a man.

Overall I would say yes, if all other queues to a man’s quality are removed then females will look for what they can find to go on and strength suggests good genes and good lifestyle. Its good to see it well written up. It is logical. I would suggest not trying to draw too many conclusions beyond the simple rule of hypergamy -women want to mate with quality men.

In a noisy night club a slag can only look at clothing, body language and body shape. She can then favour only muscles, youth, confidence and money (as Chad knows) but is such a dim creature even worth your looking at?

Just about everything a PUA does centers around trying to get his dick moisturized but game theory depends on the ability of the PUA to successfully fool the poontang into believing that he is a real Chad and unfortunately for most PUAs, chicks can detect the thirst these guys have, hence why it doesn’t work for most guys even if they are fairly attractive.
