That’s true, unfortunately. Women warp things and words to suit their interests and nothing else. Being human towards them has become a weakness that is rarely forgiven, if ever. I avoid women as much as possible, but if I have to interact with them for Maslow’s sake, I’m not going to play fair.

There is unfortunately an issue with these kinds of ‘wise’ sayings – they are usually absolute (referring to perfect or unqualified conditions) and therefore impossible to implement as well as to refute.

What is truth? And therefore what is a lie? Is your truth the same as mine? In the other case – is your truth my lie?

An impossible condition for people in society to implement unless everyone has the same viewpoint. Even then is an individual so wise as to know the shortcomings or limitations of his personal truth?

Same with the other two.

Again this ‘wise saying’ is impossible to refute; it still applies at an individual level.

The problem with females is they have only one truth – their own – so there is always no way to deal with them if the basis is quotes like these.

I question these ‘wise’ sayings – they are the cause for a lot of pain because people put their faith in these other ‘wise’ people absolutely without understanding the shortcomings of such ‘wisdom’ they preach – and believing that the outcomes by following such sayings must be ‘good’. Again there is no proof of this.

All that will happen is that someone will use this to persecute or kill off his enemies because he speaks truth and the other guy doesn’t. To him, he is obviously doing the ‘righteous’ thing as he is following the dictates of a wise man or ‘wisdom’ and removing ‘lies’ and therefore he is carrying out justice – which is protecting ‘truth’ by ‘righteous’ action.

You can save yourself lots of spiritual strength and emotional energy through self-control. Many pointless arguments and conflict begin through comments that weren’t true, necessary, and/or kind.

Recognize that much of what passes between our lips will only serve to drain our energy. Achieve zen through silence. People are going to do and say stupid s~~~ until the end of time… why should it concern you? No f~~~s given. It’s not self-censorship, it’s just declining to waste your energy.

I get where Carnage is coming from, to an extent, but I would suggest the better path is not saying whatever you wish, but by keeping silence whenever you wish. Unless they’re going to contribute to your own well-being, why should anyone get free access to your thoughts/advice/concerns/rebukes?

This is funny to me because the other day 3 of my daughters were bitching at each other and this quote came up.

I went and told them I had had enough of this. Their replies were all “Well she said X” and “Yes because she said Y first”. I said that they really had to do better. They were not helping themselves. Nothing of any importance had been said and all each of them had achieved was alienating their sisters. They were supposed to help each other.

Quiet was restored and I went back to my office. Then sure enough a subtly provocative voice spoke up, clearly hoping to continue the hostility “Now, remember what Daddy said, don’t say anything unless it is going to be helpful” “Yes” said another “Ask yourself is it true, is it necessary and is it kind”. As is often the case with female conversation what was said was not what was meant. They were not trying to stop arguing, they were admonishing each other and baiting their traps.

It was the first time I had heard “Is it true, is it necessary and is it kind?” and I thought it rather good. I even called back “So is this conversation necessary?” and finally they stopped it.

Women use conversation for many things other than to convey the truth, the necessary and the kind.

One of the stoics said something similar- only speak if what you have to say is not better left unsaid.

In my day to day interactions I have learned to gradually say less and less to people around me.

If it’s work stuff I say what I have to. If it’s friends I am more open.

Naturally with the kids I talk freely and lovingly to them.

But as a rule these days I don’t feel a need to talk much.
