Two current headlines really highlight the gender accountability differences.

    http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/03/us/califomia-revenge-porn-sentence/

First, there’s the guy who ran a “revenge porn” web site, and just was sentenced to 18 years in prison.   This guy allowed men to post TRUE information about their ex-girlfriends.  Mostly, photos of the girls naked.  Now, could that be embarrassing?  Sure.  Bad taste?  Sure.  But these girls DID pose nude, and now they want their ex-boyfriends to keep quiet.  But, we were really, really scared that these girls would be hurt by this information.  Heck, one of them tried to KILL HERSELF (women almost never succeed at killing themselves, so not surprisingly, she failed).

So, everyone agrees that this is a BAD, DANGEROUS MAN and we throw him in jail for 18 years.  Don’t hurt the poor women by telling everyone what they REALLY DID.  The photos were TRUE.  They were just embarrassing.  And that was enough to call the guy who ran the web site a felon.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/06/business/media/rolling-stone-retracts-article-on-rape-at-university-of-virginia.html

Second, there’s the Rolling Stone Gang Rape story.  Which was a total lie.  Some attention-whore claimed she’d been horribly raped by a whole fraternity.  She named names, and accused a whole bunch of guys of being GANG RAPISTS.  This was distributed on national media, and Rolling Stone’s story was picked up all over the place.  It was all a TOTAL LIE, and the allegations were COMPLETELY FALSE but Rolling Stone and others spread them with glee, and the girl got lots of pity and “support.

Now, that we know this was a lie, are we going to throw the girl, and maybe Rolling Stone’s writers, in jail for 18 years?  No, actually the girl is STILL BEING KEPT ANONYMOUS.  She’s actually still considered a victim.  And the only fear is “will real victims be afraid to speak up, because someone might not believe them?”  NOBODY F~~~ING CARES that these guys were dragged through the mud with FALSE accusations.

But wait, weren’t we horrified about TRUE but embarrassing information on the revenge porn web sites?  Wasn’t JUST THE FACT THAT IT WAS EMBARRASSING enough to make revenge-porn guy a criminal?

The only difference is, these are MEN being embarrassed and humiliated.  So even though these were FALSE AND MALICIOUS allegations, the person distributing them is a woman, not a man, and the victims are men, not women.  So who gives a f~~~, right?

    Apples to oranges.

Kevin Christopher Bollaert is going to jail because he ran an extortion racket not because he ran a porn site.  It was the $250 to $350 he was charging the women to remove the images that got him in trouble, extortion has been illegal for a very, very long time.

As for the UVA rape, the fraternity has vowed to sue, there could still be justice yet there.  More importantly, it blows a huge hole in the “women don’t lie about rape” myth.

Not apples to oranges.  The underlying social view of the two is what’s important.  A woman can lie and humiliate men, and magazines can republish those lies for financial gain, and everything’s hunky-dory.  She’s still a “victim” entitled to protection.

Here, a jury found Kevin Christopher Bollaert guilty.  They could have found him not guilty, and he raised lots of defenses. But society generally looks down on men who make life difficult for women.  In particular, men who sexually humiliate women.  So they came down hard on him.

Not so the other way around.  Everyone is discouraging the fraternity from even suing Rolling Stone, and EVERYONE is opposed to any justice for the lying piece of s~~~ woman who accused them falsely in the national media.

Ever heard of credit reporting bureaus?  Identity theft protection, by those same bureaus?  Chapter  13 Bankruptcies and the Bankruptcy Reform Act?  There’s plenty of legal extortion out there.   Just because you ask for a fee to sort out problems caused by the reporting service you set up doesn’t make you and extortioner — if it did, banks would all be criminals.  But men are an un-protected, disposable class.
