I saw a statistic recently that claimed women are responsible for:
85% of consumer purchases, overall and —
91% of new house purchases
92% of vacations
80% healthcare
65% of new vehicles
93% of OTC drugs (I’d bet prescriptions for things like Xanax are nearer to 99%)

We all know that statistics are questionable at best if the researchers’ methodology isn’t disclosed, but I wouldn’t doubt that these are close.

Women seem to buy useless s~~~ for three main reasons: it makes them feeeeeeeel happy; it lets them show off their “status”; and they’re constantly dissatisfied with whatever they have now (it’s too “old”, too “out-of-date”, too “small”, etc.).

I have a dining room table with two benches, a couch, two beds, a custom rack I built to hold stereo equipment, and a general-purpose table (my television and DVD player sit on the floor). That’s all the furniture I own, and I’m not sure I want that much. I’d like to unload one of the beds. I own a total of three pairs of shoes: my everyday Western-style workboots; my “muck” boots; and one pair of dress shoes (which I’ll probably never wear again — my ex-wife INSISTED that I “dress up” for a funeral… I attended another funeral years later in my work boots, carpenter pants, and a polo and guess what? Nobody cared — they were happy I showed up. Funerals suck enough as it is, I’m at least going to dress how I feel comfortable).

The amount my Ex used to spend was ridiculous. She lived at home with minimal board and just a car payment…so a good 80% of her salary was disposable income.

EVERY weekend, in addition to anything we would do – she’d spend AT LEAST £200 on random chit. New clothes, MORE stuff for her bedroom.

She’d try to convince me to ‘treat myself’ once in a while.
1) I actually have bills to pay as I live in my own flat.
2) I try to live as minimal as possible and don’t want all this crap in my life.
3) Any spare money I had I kept aside for ‘dates’. (TRUST ME LADS – I’VE LEARNT MY LESSON ON THIS ONE)

I guess it’s their way of ‘filling the void’. If they can never love, they hope possessions will give them the attention and belonging they crave. How sad.
