Seeing as women are interested in equality and not double standards, let’s turn that around and pose the question to her:

Would you advise a son to marry a poor woman with no intention of bettering herself or a woman who is working hard or already successful. Of course men are going to be attracted to rich women, they can provide for any future children. It’s normal. Men who marry women with no ambition or success are extremely foolish

I think this actually is starting to happen more…more guys are starting to realize getting financially involved with a woman with significant student loan/credit card/car debt is a toxic choice for their financial well being.  I don’t think they openly get the advice from parents or other elders like young women are openly encouraged to seek a financially successful partner, but I think this is a conclusion a lot of guys are coming to simply by watching people they know get f~~~ed over, or from a common sense approach that marrying someone with a ton of debt and a low paying job is placing an unfair financial burden on them, and they’d be better off with that money put towards investments or assets in their name instead of paying off a woman’s past mistakes.

But hey, women wanted equality, if men are starting to consider a potential partners financial well being when determining whether or not she is worth getting involved with, this is equality, isn’t it?  Women have been doing this since the beginning of time, its about time men start to do it as well.

I would say men would also try to do hypergamy, but the mindframe in the world is men have so much power, it is IMPOSSIBLE for them to find any women to marry up to, so they need to marry down.  It is their duty to help women and so on.  Women have the option to end up marrying up, but men don’t (as a rule).  Feminists will say they want to change this (it is part of their “equality” PR campaign), but the cold reality is that there isn’t active campaigning by anyone to get rid of things that benefit them.

I don’t know if there is a different word for men hypergamy or not, but it sure exists. Only it’s not about money or power, but about the looks and youth.
Hypergamy is a somewhat made up construct, because it’s a universal human quality to strive for something better.
It is natural for people being hypergamous, but it depends on moral values and family ties.
If a woman doesn’t have morals or doesn’t feel loyalty to her family (where she doesn’t feel like her spouse is her family)- she’ll jump ship.

That opening link was perfect. This ‘Men not marrying’ article is a seemingly complete summation of the worth (to men) modern marriage provides. And the comment section! After someone shamed the suffering of ex-husbands in the courts, one man dropped Little Boy on him. He noted that the piece was about women complaining that men weren’t marrying anymore. I’m not sure if the original shamer got the full meaning, but it hit me like a bomb. It was another ‘Women complaining that men don’t want to marry them’ story, but that in itself is meaningful. There isn’t a genre of men whining women won’t marry them because the deal is so one-sided. Nor are the ‘Too many women ripped off in div. court’ headlines demanding an overhaul of the system. It’s all in the written word. The proof that slavery existed in ancient Rome is that there are records defending the morality of the abhorrent practice.
