A BRITISH student is behind bars after claiming a taxi driver sexually assaulted her when he refused to accept her cash that was covered in kebab oil.

A CABBIE falsely accused of sexually assaulting a young woman has revealed his friends stopped speaking to him after he was tainted by the allegations.

The Sun reports British student Sophie Pointon, 22, had claimed she had been molested by the taxi driver in England after she was picked up from a night out, lying to police because he refused to accept her kebab-stained cash note.

The driver told the court in an emotional victim impact statement that he had been shunned by the Muslim community following the false claims and banned from entering the homes of friends.

He said: “I am now extremely reluctant to take lone females in case I am accused again. The girl who accused me is the same age as my own daughter — I cannot comprehend why she made this allegation. I feel religiously tainted from this, and no help from the police or the courts can help that. Friends stopped speaking to me and letting me into their homes. People in my community do not even want to be seen with me.”

The driver — a dad-of-five — was kept in custody for six hours after police tracked him down and was unable to work for four weeks because of the claim on April 22.

He said Pointon was “extremely drunk” when she got into his car clutching the greasy late-night snack in Leeds, where she went to university. The boozed-up student chucked a note at him but he refused to accept it because it was covered in oil.

She then became abusive but the driver said it was “not unusual” to deal with drunk passengers. Pointon broke down in tears and asked if she could drop the charges when her account was challenged by police. Her lies had unravelled when a GPS tracker in the cab showed her description of the journey wasn’t true. The student has now been jailed for 16 months after admitting perverting the course of justice at Leeds Crown Court.

Denise Breen-Lawton, mitigating, said Pointon, of Manchester, had been studying in Leeds at the time. She said her hopes of becoming a police officer were now ruined. Jailing her, Judge Christopher Batty said: “Your malicious complaint has done a huge disservice to those seeking justice through the police and courts.”

The damage was great for that man, 1 month job less and his community banning him since he is a muslim.

She only recanted and “broke down in tears” after she got caught and called out on her scam after evidence to the contrary was produced.

If this evidence didn’t come up, or if the police ignored or withheld it, she would now be a cop and that poor cabbie would be in jail.

16 months? If this guy had gone to jail it would have been 5 years minimum. I say she deserves the same sentence along with having her name added to the sex offender registry.

Sophie Pointon is NOT the victim she is the perpetrator. I wish men had an ingroup preference like women do. We really did it as we r under attack from multiple sides.
