I don’t have a smartphone and don’t want one .. and I’ve run into a dilemma I can’t solve
At this moment, I am really feeling the need to get a decent video drone to check my fence line without walking it every time. I am currently recovering my hiking ability from some recent downtime.
I need something decent with a range of hopefully about 1300 yards .. ability to record video (a card) and it would be nice to have some kind of auto return button because I will loose sight of it if it happens to drop too far over trees or hilltop.
Is there anything out there for me? I need a built in LED screen on the base unit .. no smartphone at all .. and no apps .. but preferably “record” ability.
I normally wouldn’t post this NON-mgtow thread but I am recovering from slight surgery and even though I can now walk the distance with a little extra effort .. in future, it would be nice to be able to check perimeter without facing the wood-ticks, briars and thorns, occasional snakes and rough terrain.
thanks! .. oh, yes, I’m guessing I probably need a minimum of fifteen minutes flying time to make the circuit slowly enough to check things as I go. I’d also be glad to purchase extra batteries if breaking up the trip around the round circuit could be done in two different sessions instead of one. (max distance away from my house required slightly over 1100-1200 yards so I picked 1300 above to be safe) .. thanks.
What’s your budget, look at the dji mavic lineup.

15 minutes? Well. You can build a rig that will do that, and use CCTV Systems. But really, the phone is the best CHEAPEST way to go.
THey have drones you can program to do go to a certain place. (HEHEHEHhehehehhehe)
So.. Might want to look into that. You are all alone. If you have been falsely accused of RAPE, DV, PLEASE let all men know about the people who did this. http://register-her.net/web/guest/home

Thanks, yes …. I’m hoping to stay around $1000
I’ve found one advertised online Yuneec Typhoon H for about $800 delivered that seems to be operable without phone attatched .. yet, I’m still not sure if some hidden apps are required to get it flying .. that’s what I need to verify, if it would work in my circumstances .. it does have the listed range at 1800 meters and can even get a package deal with two batteries. 1500 meters would be enough with a slight safety buffer to reach outermost fenceposts.

Yes, thanks! ..the one I’ve looked at by simply using online photos and trial and error trying to find the screen I need
.. seems to be in the general specifications direction of something called
Typhoon Hif I can study more and see that no smartphone needed .. I’ll order it today. That’s the tricky part. They could assume everyone has a phone so they might not even mention it as part of set-up in the listing … that’s what’s holding me back.
I’ve been watching videos on Youtube today wrt to this model and so far it seems to be self contained with video screen built in.
If it works, if it’s possibly do-able .. and really can go 1800 meters .. I could possibly even look down and check out my mailbox where they leave packages dropped off.
Your best bet is the dji mavic line then. They come with dedicated controllers that have viewing screens for fpv, and decent flight time times. They’re also highly portable which, from my experience with casual pilots, ends up being one of the most important features. I don’t mind lugging around 5 duffel bags of gear and parts, casual pilots tend to throw everything in the corner and leave it there if it’s too cumbersome.

Also I and many other skilled pilots answer questions like this on rcgroups.com, you’ll get a much better response about this if you ask in a place dedicated to it.
