This is a very niche post, but I felt it was worthwhile to write it since there is a distinct possibility that some of my brothers have encountered this very frustrating computer malfunction.

Compared to previous Microsoft operating systems, Windows 10 is very unstable. Some users have no issues (my pro version at work is fine), but many others have reported common malfunctions with the system, particularly the nefarious Blue Screen of Death (BSoD), when your screen suddenly turns blue and displays the words “your computer ran into a problem and needs to restart.” Without the installation of 3rd party software, the screen won’t even tell you what caused the malfunction. This can be very frustrating, especially if you lose whatever you were working on at the time.

Because outdated drivers are a known and common cause of this issue, I went to my device manager and updated all my drivers. However, the BSoD persisted, sometimes as often as three times a day. After searching around the internet a bit, I discovered that Windows 10 is terrible at finding driver updates automatically. The system will claim your drivers are up to date, when in reality there are newer versions available. Again, older versions of Windows were generally good at finding driver updates automatically, but apparently not Windows 10.

To circumvent this problem, you can update the drivers manually, either by downloading and installing them yourself, or else using third party software. I did this a few weeks ago, and the issue finally stopped. I’ve had only one crash since then, which seems to be unavoidable, as the system is inherently glitchy. Still, one crash in a few weeks is a vast improvement over three per day.

Again, just thought I’d mention this since Microsoft customer support is pretty useless, and maybe some of you have experienced this same issue. For those of you laughing at me for using Windows 10, in my defense I’ve been using the pro version at work for a while, and it never gave me any problems, so I thought I would be fine. I was unacquainted with the myriad of issues found in this OS. I intend to avoid Windows 10 in the future.

Chances are it is an auto-update issue with Windows. There have been other issues like this on various windows. The problem is Windows 7 was the last Windows to lets you turn off automatic updates option.

I’m not having that issue but the damn thing keeps popping up trying to make me update to the latest version of it, the creators update or some nonsense which is suppose to be really unstable. I keep hitting snooze but damn thing keeps nagging me like a woman. I need to install a STFU app to make it STFU, i’m about at that point with it.

i had that blue screen of death happen,
    needed a new hard drive.
    runs smooth now.
    well worth the cost.
about 100$ and change for it.

I turned off auto updates with Windows 8 (maybe that’s only the home version), but I don’t know about 8.1, which is a piece of s~~~ incidentally.

I’m weaseling my way into windows via the task manager, otherwise windows will not start and restore can’t.

plus that little thing about jump starting the cooling fan with an air blower.

Happened to me recently…I did a full reinstall of windows when recovery proves fruitless…Now I make restore points at least every week or 2…Just to cover my bases…

Im thinking of Linux Mint for my laptop which I usually use for surfing or streaming…Windows 10 lags in laptop due to limited cpu power or memory…

    So noted, thanks!

I’ve been doing Windows10 rollouts in businesses. Outlook behaves entirely differently on Win10 than prior OSs at some low levels that I had to develop some hacks for one environment due a local configuration that is technically correct to get Outlook to work properly in it.
