I’ve had this chronic issue where I’ve always had to disable/reenable my VPN network adapter after a reboot on a particular Win 8.1 PC of mine in order to get my VPN client to work properly. I upgraded the PC to Win 10 yesterday, and now I no longer have to do that.

I installed Win10 a couple of days ago. I’m still making up my mind if I like it or not. I didn’t like Win8 but Win10 is an improvement over that. I might end up reinstalling Win7, I don’t know yet.

You know there are some privacy implications I really do not like too. This experience just plays into my conspiracy theory that MS is letting stuff rot to push people to Win 10.

The user interface is a vast improvement though over Win 8.x.

I don’t really care for Windows 10 that much, probably gonna dump it and go back to Windows 7 when I get the opportunity.

I miss the old clean Windows 2000 look with the nicely colored icons and stuff.

Microsoft is doing everything in its power to nullify privacy online, and with partners like Google do I need to say more? So they set up Windows to send them everything about you. That’s the big part of the reasons for all those “updates” they have. They sell a product at 200 bucks and you STILL have to connect and download crap that was supposed to come with the product like .NET Framework, DirectX, Java, Office… and they want to make damn SURE your copy of Windows is legit, that’s all they care about.
I changed my mind yesterday and decided I’d set up my new PC like my last one. My system now runs on Linux: OpenSuse and I got several copies of Windows running in VirtualBox just for the games. That’s where Windows belongs, as a slave within a TRUE operating system that’s FREE and came COMPLETE.
Wear that on your sleeve, Bill Gates.

Aside from what you’ve said here, I’ve heard and seen nothing good about Windows 10.

My computer’s still advertising it to me, and I wish I could disable it by now. But I guess that’s not an option.

Yeah, the nag box for win 10 under 7/8 is a pain in the ass, but you can kill it by editing the registry (regedit):

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Gwx

Under it you create a new DWORD value named:

    DisableGwx

Set it to 1, and reboot.

Mmmm. I tried win 10 on someone elses machine. Didn’t notice much of a difference in terms of performance, and the time to boot up and shut down takes more then 30 seconds.

This is how fast my machine boots from my grub bootloader to my log in display. It takes roughly 20 to 30 seconds, and that speed hasn’t changed with all of the updates, and the packages I installed over the years. With Win 7, I had slow downs If I didn’t defrag in two weeks or breakage without knowing how to fix it even with searching on how to.

    [alistairmiller@anzu ~]$ systemd-analyze
    Startup finished in 4.183s (kernel) + 8.939s (userspace) = 13.123s

The OS is Arch Linux and while setting up took me a least 2 hours after installing the os by console, the results is worth it.

There is nothing that runs without my knowledge, and everything is how I want it.

Windows still has to fix their filesystem, registry system, GUI lock outs.

Been playing around with old Windows 2000. I wish modern day Windows still looked that clean, even the choices of color palettes were pleasing to the eye.

The only reason why I am not installing Win10 is because “I have no reason to do so”.

In OS, drivers, bios….. if it aint broke, dont fix it.

Yeah!!! ARCH LINUX!! That is what I use as well. It took me a bit longer to get it installed. It is really not for the Linux ‘lite’. It is VERY fast!! I appreciate the fact that they don’t make the apps and OS bloated, and they run everything straight out of static ram.

The only issue I had was the screen glitching randomly. Now that I don’t have that issue I’m completely satisfied with 10.

Office 2016 on the other hand. I hate this cloud service with annual fees bulls~~~.
