Although I’m from South Australia and the ‘Wilshire 5000’ shouldn’t mean anything to me, I pay very close attention to it, because, it affects a majority of my decisions.
Before you search the web for the definition, just a few words about what anyone thinks it means?
One clue; everyone I’ve asked, has no idea.Without peeking I do know that Wilshire 5000 is not really 5000 but sounds better than say, Wilshire 6305 π
That’s easy since I lightly play the stock market.
Its the total market value of all stocks traded in the USA.I also call it the Delusional Index since the stock market is so detached from reality. π
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.
I think a better question would be, what conditions or events would you watch for that signal that the “chickens are coming home to roost” so to speak.
At some point inertia must catch up – the “thermodynamic laws of economics” demand it.
You cant run up the largest debt in human history, both public and personal, and not have any consequences to growth.
This is why I don’t own a house right now. I would love to put all my knowledge and skills in electrical, carpentry, finishing, and plumbing to use rehabbing a house while I camp out there, but property prices in the Seattle area are absolutely insane. I mean certifiably “are you nucking futs?!?!?!?!” prices for crapshacks. It’s even worse in Vancouver.
And in my mind the stock market is a huge piece of that whole thing. People feel secure in their stock investments, so they’re willing to spend more on housing.
Funny thing, if EITHER housing or the stock market goes down, it will take the other one with it.
So back to the original question – what’s the trigger for the downfall? President Hillary? President Trump?
I’m thinking Trump is a false flag operation to get Hillary elected. Then once she’s elected, let the whole thing implode and the sheeple will blame Hillary for everything.
Boom. No female president ever again for at least 2-3 generations.
Plus she makes it really easy to deflect blame away from the true mass fraud perpetrators in the finance industry.
Personally, I propose we introduce the death penalty for willful crimes of finance over one billion dollars. It’s the same line of reasoning as the death penalty for so-called drug “kingpins,” where even though they didn’t kill anyone themselves, their actions have ultimately resulted in enough mass suffering and death that they need to die.
How does that same line of reasoning not apply to artificially jacking up the housing market up so high you know exactly when and how it will collapse, and then intentionally shorting your own stock to profit?
How many people lost their retirement because it was “invested” in worthless mortgage backed securities and ended up homeless and freezing to death? It has to be at least in the hundreds, if not thousands.
I say death penalty or at least life in prison w/o parole for willful financial malfeasance on this scale.

“Delusional Index” Classic. Love that one.
