I hate to be a real downer on this as I know *some* have, BUT they really are the very lucky few.

My experience, and those of COUNTLESS others say otherwise.

I had those discussions too, with my wife, way back when.

“Hey if we ever divorce my love we’d never put each other through the wringer and just do it amicably, split things fairly with no need to involve expensive layers. Oh I agree my love, what a pointless waste of money and energy THAT would be! Some people are just so dumb and lose everything they worked for.”

When THAT time came to divorce, not only did I find out it was ALL bulls~~~ but the c~~~ actually made the
‘ONE PHONE CALL’.

The aftermath of that was me fighting for months and months in the legal system and a criminal court trial to clear myself.

Even when I did, there was no easy divorce.

This bitch just kept on making things up about me, ridiculous bulls~~~ lies that just dragged out the lawyers back and forth s~~~ show.

I was absolutely helpless, as I watched EVERYTHING I ever worked for get swallowed up in legal bills, lawyer fees and court cases. The house was ordered to be sold and then the equity too was put in the lawyers banks as retainers. She kept the fight going as even the house equity got swallowed up.

Eventually, when there was nothing left and we were both financially devastated she let go and so did the courts and lawyers once we were BOTH used up financially.

Nothing left.

TOTAL UTTER DESTRUCTION.

THIRTY years of working, saving, taking out policies for the future all went to the lawyers and the courts because she was a f~~~ing vindictive dumb c~~~.

The very bottom line about marriage is this: As long as Divorce exists there is no point of getting married.

I was lucky. Mine was as cheap as it could be. However, I still had to buy a new place to live. House payments are cheaper than renting where I live. I could rent a s~~~hole for a lot of money I didn’t have, or buy a cheap new house with monthly payments that were a lot less.

The divorce was cheap and easy, so yes, I was very fortunate there, but starting over is still expensive. I had to sell my boat and pull a lot of money out of my retirement to get s~~~ paid off and start over. It’s going to cost a man a lot of money no matter what.

Family court asset discovery is to let the court and attorneys know how much money they can take from you.

The attorneys are set up to suggest the maximum amount of animosity towards the spoused because that mean more filings, court time, possibly mandated court appointed experts, etc.

I got out for less than $1K. We utilized one attorney to make it as cheap as possible. It saved me $20K, but because I didn’t “lawyer up” it wound up costing me $1K month for child support and other debts which total $20K annually for the next seven years…

Hiring an attorney now seems a missed opportunity.

Anytime anyone says “lawyer up” do it. At least make the truth of the c—-s behavior be known so you’re not the “Bad Man” in the efn relationship.

So true. I gave my ex-wife an option for us to self-file and divorce for a couple $$$. She said no and wanted to go through a 1.5 year divorce process with over 30k in legal bills and another 10k in medical premiums. She only gave in when the legal fees started to hurt her financially. All for what? She got LESS than what I offered after including the legal fees she paid.
