I’m going to try to make the case as to why we MGTOW should use open source software as opposed to proprietary software and how it can harm feminism if we all did switch to open source software.

But firstly, these are the technical reasons as to why you should use open source software:

    1. You’re in control of your own system just as Han Solo was completely in control of his own ship

Knowing your computer inside and out is a great thing whether or not you’re an IT guy. You have complete control of it’s inner workings, not some third party company like Microsoft. You get to decide when to update your system, not anyone else. Hell, you can even start your own distro if you felt like doing so.

    2. There’s no worrying about piracy. I’m against copyright, because people are going to pirate your s~~~ whether you like it or not. Companies such as Microsoft however, inforce really stupid and really strict policies on how to use their software. When you buy a copy of Windows for instance, you’re just renting it. You don’t own it.

With open source software, you don’t have that type of problem. You’re free to change whatever you want that’s on your system whether it be a laptop, desktop, or server. Which gets me to my next point.

3.Open source software is highly customizable.

You can customize till your heart’s content. You don’t have to worry about whether it’s legal or not to customize a system for your own business for example. For instance, on Linux systems, you get to change your wallpaper, window managers, themes, fonts, languages, cursors, etc. You’re also not forced to keep a program you don’t want on your system. I.E., Internet Exploder.

    4. You can game on Linux

Sure, certain games won’t work on Linux, but certain games won’t even work on Windows. There are things such as Wine and PlayOnLinux that allows Windows games to be played on Linux itself. Not to mention Steam has ported over enough games to keep the casual and hardcore gamer satisfied forever.

    ______________________________________________________________________

Secondly, this is why you as a MGTOW should use open source software:

    1. You don’t have to worry about supporting an SJW company

Companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Apple are turning into social justice warriors fast. Because of this, they’re censoring certain games and making them “politically correct.” Games such as Grand Theft Auto 5 are under heavy pressure from the SJWs and companies such as Target for example, have banned the sale of their games.

If game developers switched to open source, they would be harder to target by the SJWs because operating systems such as Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Debian, and Steam OS aren’t owned by a large company. They’re developed by individuals.

    2. Since open source software isn’t controlled by a single entity, that single entity can’t be pressured into censoring it’s products.

Companies like Microsoft for example, are pressured all the time to censor games on their Xbox consoles. If they were open sourced, individual developers would just keep on developing that software and ignore those SJWs as most open source software is developed for free by individuals who support that software.

    3. You’re not being spied on by third party companies.

    Nuff’ said.

I also get there are certain software that isn’t open sourced that you must absolutely use. I for one, have a Google Account because I have an Android phone.

However, if you can do without proprietary software, dump it for good, or at the very least, try to use less and less of it.

I wish it was that simple for me. My Steam library holds me back, aswell as other games I got, less hassle on Win for me. Aswell as other apps, right now I enjoy stability and know-how of windows I got over years since Win 98, then Xp, then 7.

But damn, I really loved Ubuntu when I used it for a month. It felt clean, fresh.
I still use VLC, Open Office, even now on Windows.
Once I have a laptop, I will go wild/experiment with Ubuntu or some other linux distribution full on, and see how much I can make it work. But not yet.

I’ve been 100% open source now for over a decade and would never go back. ALL of the reasons Grim lists are totally valid, and things like Compiz 3D cube make Windows/OSx look like a toy.

To his excellent list, I would also add that due to the design of Linux, things like viruses are essentially unheard of.

You never have to worry about going to the wrong web site and something bad happening to you computer.

There are tools that come stock with EVERY linux distro that allow you log ALL network traffic going into and out of your machine so you can verify that nothing is “spying” on you or whatever.

The top ten supercomputers on earth all run Linux the last time I checked.

I never though about the SJW aspect of it – I always ran it simple because it was better, but that is an EXCELLENT point.

Ask yourself, would you buy a car with the hood welded shut? That’s Microsoft/Apple.

Linux is like buying a car that can be transformed in a few minutes from a Rolls Royce to a Mclaren (and back if you want), and not only comes with the full factory service manual for free, but they will give you a fully outfitted garage complete with lifts and all Air/power tools.

    All totally gratis.

If you haven’t tried it before, do youself a favor and check out https://getfedora.org/

    OR http://www.ubuntu.com/download

I personally prefer the first one (Fedora) because I feel like it’s a little “tighter,” but Ubuntu is probably better for beginners.

Both come pre-loaded with a full office suite (completely M$ compatible), email, web browsers, and media ready.

This is customizing power of Linux:

It’s so much better than the crap of an operating system they call Mac OSX and Windows 8.1/10.

    Nice wallpaper, Grim.

And I’m in complete agreement. I switched to Linux 1 1/2 years ago (started with Ubuntu, distro hopped for a while and settled with Arch linux), and I’m NEVER going back. The initial learning curve was quite a bit to get used to (largely because I chose Arch) but, once everything set up and running the way you want, it’s great. Lightning fast, relatively little worry about viruses, no DRM bulls~~~ so you can play around with bootable flash drives, rock solid stable, and I find the software packages clean and easy to use. I used all freeware and open source software on windows anyways, and some of what I used runs faster and more stable under linux.

If you don’t have to use something that’s exclusive to Windows/OS X, or you can run it in wine or a virtual machine, consider switching to linux. The learning curve is well worth it.

    @avidavarice

Thanks, and yeah it took me quite a few years just to get comfortable with Linux. Then, another few years just to learn it. But, it’s definitely worth the switch if you can do without a few Windows games/Applications.

Personally, I would have all Windows, OS X, and Linux operating systems. For the desktops, I’ll keep each OS on its separate hard drive or SSD. But, I’ll stick with my MacBook Pro laptop as I like it and it gets the job done well. Just my personal opinion on the topic. All in all, open source software is awesome!
