The Institute for Family Studies (IFS) is dedicated to strengthening marriage and family life, and advancing the well-being of children, through research and public education.
Maybe because we know men have the most to lose in divorce. If divorce was just a simple amicable parting of the ways, with a reasonable settlement on the division of resources, then things could change. Until then, marriage is an unnecessary risk in men’s lives.
When the war cemeteries are half full of the corpses of dead conscripted women, only then will women have earned the right to speak of equality. Sidecar “A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.” - Bob Dylan
Sugar coated, biased, apologist slanted propaganda bulls~~~ article.
"You don't know a woman till you have met her in divorce court."Himeo,
Whenever you see a study that announces_________________ fill in the blank here, you always have to ask yourself 1) who did the study? And more importantly 2) Who funded the study? I don’t know much about the Institute of Family Studies. I’ve never heard of them before. That means it may be fairly new, and its creators may not have much in the way of reputation to risk. That can reduce the amount of rigorous pursuit of the facts. But, if I’m the institute for family studies, then I need some families to study. If there are no more men willing to get married, there will be no more families to study and my “institute” will become irrelevant. So the Institute for Family Studies may have bias or preference for a given conclusion in their study before the study even starts. The second question about who funded the study is important to know because it affects the amount of trust you are likely to have in its conclusions. Decades ago, the tobacco industry funded some studies that concluded that cigarette smoking didn’t have any health risks, and that nicotine was not addictive. Those results are laughable now, but at a time before there were a lot of other sources of funding for studies like these, the (manufactured bulls~~~) data in these studies was the only data that existed and so it had some credibility by default.
I didn’t have time to go into all the details of this study. But for now, I’d say that there may in fact be some benefit to men from getting married. But benefit alone is not what drives a man’s decision. Cost of those benefits is the other half of that equation and for a growing number of men, the benefits don’t seem close enough to being worth the cost that they are willing to attempt to gain those benefits. For those who do attempt, half find the cost to be way out of proportion to the benefits. 30% of the men in that half decide it wasn’t really worth it and bail out. The women in the other 70% of that half bail, and when they do, you can be certain that the cost to the man at that point far outweigh the benefits. In fact, the benefits (whatever they were) stop and the costs continue.
Then there is the half that stays married. Perhaps that is because the benefits are worth the cost of staying married for those men. But possibly, it is only because thought miserable, the cost of bailing for those men is NOT worth it. That’s very different from a a benefit.
I’ll agree with AFT. Marriage is not that scary or threatening. It’s the divorce terms that stop me from getting married.
Johnny Carson probably summed it up best when he said that he never had much fear of flying… but it was that crashing and burning part that made him especially nervous…
Look, it's not my fault that tornado dropped a house on your sister. Now get back on your broom and get your ass out of here... and take your monkeys with you
I posted it for entertainment value. The Michael Jackson gif was my reaction while reading it.
Their evidence was decades old surveys of guys from the last generation where traditionalism was mainstream, easily refuted claims about income vs disposable income, and the best part:
The Institute for Family Studies (IFS) is dedicated to strengthening marriage and family life, and advancing the well-being of children, through research and public education.
Their own mission statement betrays they don’t give a f~~~ about Men or Women. They’re pushing an agenda to benefit children.
Anonymous11The brain of the mangina author works in most mysterious ways. I don’t ever recall seeing a marriage where any man has benefited the most from it even the minority fraction of them that don’t end in disasters. What a load of crap!
Thanks for sharing as it got me out from the negative vibes from last nights trollfest. What a hoot to read.
