    The Milgram experiment replicated.

Unsurprisingly, the participant was less likely to refuse if the “victim” was male.

It’s well worth reading about the original experiment or checking out the German film “Das Experiment”.

    We are all killers.

    we are also all,
    painters
    poets
    piano players
    priests…
what we bring to the FOREFRONT from within us is what we become.
    too many follow rules blindly.

I am curious if men or women were more likely to hold off on giving shocks to other men?

"Women are directly adapted to act as the nurses and educators of our early childhood, for the simple reason that they themselves are childish, foolish, and short-sighted—in a word, are big children all their lives, something intermediate between the child and the man, who is a man in the strict sense of the word. Consider how a young girl will toy day after day with a child, dance with it and sing to it; and then consider what a man, with the very best intentions in the world, could do in her place.” Quote from Arthur Shopenhauer, 17th century philosopher

Interesting point. I think most guys would not mind giving shocks if (a) they knew it would not hurt the person really (b) it was another guy – even if they did not know him

I think guys would not do it to a girl they did not know. HOWEVER I would glady ZAP any bitch I knew had it coming

Guys do this kind of s~~~ all the time – hell that’s what we like to do deep down inside. But most men would hold off if they did not know the risks. I believe in male goodness and conscience.

A man is a sharp knife – it can be used to kill or cure. The action depends on the man. In reverse – you cannot have a Da Vinci without Jack The Ripper.

Now females – appearance only “oh no”. Reality? They’ll f~~~ing kill you. Why? Power trip. And knowing they can get away with it.

I loved this experiment. I also like the Stanford Prison Experiment, as well as the experiments Harry Harlow performed regarding maternal separation. These experiments give us true insight into the human psyche. Humans are interesting.

That’s why I somewhat question the results of the experiment. We don’t know the exact conditions other than ‘under authority’. I try and picture myself in that scenario and what kind of questions were going through my head. What’s the point of this? Is it for something that could be useful? What’s the consequences to me if I don’t carry out the order? Surely there are safeguards to ensure no permanent damage, right? Why do they need me to push the button and not just do it themselves?

I’m just not believing that people naturally chose to follow authority over making moral decisions for themselves. That said, we are very well trained to follow authority without question since birth. It’s also likely the very reason women were spared more than men…because we are trained to think that way.

    Ok. Then do it.

Exactly – do we say ‘ok’ because we know it’s an experiment? That means we trust the authority to make sure no one is really hurt? Now that’s scary.
