It’s a very practical approach: welfare cannot exist with too many poors, and importing poor people is going to either collapse the system or to erase welfare (and then having angry crowds causing a lot troubles).
On the other hand, welfare, if properly treated, can be used to reinforce patriotism: “no one will be left behind” here have been a rightist slogan at a certain point.
The problems with welfare are basically two:
Some kinds of welfare tend to make people unproductive and lazy.
Welfare in the west tend to be gendered – it’s much more towards women than towards men.

That’s why I support things like universal healthcare and universal basic income but I’m against things like food stamps: being sure that you’re going to receive health treatment isn’t going to make you lazy, in some situations it can even encourage to take risks and even encourage people to participate in community (due you feel you aren’t surrounded by bastards who would let you die in the street), while universal basic income can be implemented in ways promoting people bettering themselves (if you reject a job then you lose the UBI, it can be even extended to take mandatory social work or retraining, otherwise you lost the UBI) – if you pay attention, you’ll notice that the general feeling for people taking the UBI would be “the state is going to support me but they’re owning my ass and enforcing me to do things”. That’s a feature, not a bug. It’s meant for pushing worthy but unlucky people to grow and then exit from such situation, and giving them the means to do so, while still forcing the really lazy ones to do something without letting them to die in the streets.

In my book there’s no such thing as a veteran as you probably mean: soldiers are kept in the force until they retire with all honors and with a good pension. I care nothing if it’s expensive, their experience is a precious resource, and their presence is very important to motivate the young men.

We treat guns like we treat motorbikes and cars.

Category D requires the owner to be older than 18 (with the exception of paintball and air guns, which can be acquired by minors) – nothing else.

Category C and B
Policemen and military personnel (either in service and retired) and all people who have effectively completed military service can freely own C and B.
For all the others the law should require the owner to:
Be older than 18
+ To have either:
Hunting licence
OR
Be affiliated with a shooting range
OR
Being person classified “at risk” (jewelleries and other businesses owners, and so on)
+
To have a medical certificate ensuring his/her mental fitness.

Category B: Handguns with a capacity of 20 rounds or less, manual operation long guns with a capacity between 11 and 31 rounds, semi-automatic long guns with a capacity between 3 and 31 rounds. Also includes any firearm chambered for the following calibers: 7.62×39mm; 5.56×45mm NATO; 5.45×39mm; .50 BMG; 14.5×114mm.
