There is a reason why people say “Don’t be a hero.” It’s because being a hero will usually end up getting you dead.

I just saw the movie “San Andreas” with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. If you like action thrillers with extremely brilliant special effects, you will love San Andreas. I enjoyed it.

But I can not help but point out how being the hero can get you killed. For instance (SPOILER ALERT)…….

When the boyfriend of The Rock’s Daughter’s Mom (The Rock’s ex wife’s boyfriend) was in a situation where the girl was trapped and he couldn’t do anything about it……..he fled. He fled to get help. But when he did that it was soon becoming clear that unless he exited the building immediately, he would soon perish. So he told the security guard about her location and then he exited the building.

She survived that and when she told her Mom about it…….the Mom called the guy on his cell phone and left a message. She said “You LEFT MY DAUGHTER? If you are not already dead I am going to f~~~in’ kill you myself!”

I won’t give away anything else. All I will say is……….if that guy ended up trying to be a hero, he would have simply been killed.

Earlier in the movie, a man was running for his life to get off a bridge that was about to collapse. He stopped and helped a poor little crying girl, maybe 10 years old, if that. I can’t blame the guy, I probably would have done the same damn thing. But where did it get him? I think you can guess what happened to him. The girl was fine. He ended up dying a hero. At least he can take that to his grave.

The opportunity to be a hero is what institutions use to try to get you to sacrifice for them, when there isn’t much to get out of it.  So, they give out awards and so on, to try to get you to jump on a grenade.

Being a hero may get you medals, but it sure won’t bring you back to life.

It is a common failing of childhood to think that if one makes a hero out of a demon the demon will be satisfied.

Is not “Risking and potentially sacrificing one’s life in order to save the lives of others.” not the very definition of the word “hero”?

I mean, you can call a cancer patient a hero for running a marathon on their one remaining leg but that isn’t heroic… a hero lays their life on the line to save another life.

As far as I’m concerned, nobody’s life is as valuable as my own. So for me, a hero is a glory hounding fool with a death wish. You save yourself and I’ll do the same… we don’t need heroes.

The word HERO is so over used these days, I just equate it to a good sandwich now.

Exactly, please explain to me how an entertainer, politician, or any other person, who has not performed said sacrifice, or any real sacrifice, can be called a hero?

There was a time in my life when I gave a fuck. Now you have to pay ME for it
